When we find out the Met Gala is happening, we immediately think, “what’s Lady Gaga going to wear?”
And when we find out the theme for the year is going to be Camp? We think, “OMG seriously, WHAT is she going to wear?!”
Lady Gaga has always showed UP at red carpet events in style.
Remember when she wore a meat dress to the MTV Music Awards back in 2010? How could anyone forget?!
She even wore matching meat shoes wrapped in twine. It was utterly gross and fashionably iconic all at once.
She also made a big statement at the Brit Awards that same year.
She took Marie Antoinette to a whole new level.
Literally. That wig goes on for what seems like miles and miles.
Before we get into Gaga’s latest transformative outfits, let’s pay tribute to her Met Gala looks of years past.
Like who could forget her iconic outfit for the 2015 Met Gala, with an Asian-meets-Alice-In-Wonderland theme “China: Through The Looking Glass”.
Or this techno-punk number from the 2016 Met Gala?
Gaga was channeling 3017 fashion in her get-up for the “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” theme. Plus those HEELS, amirite?
Gaga skipped out on the Met Gala for the next few years for super valid reasons.
She couldn’t make it to the 2017 Met Gala due to her tight shooting schedule for A Star Is Born , the film that would later go on to win her an Oscar. So I would say, understandable.
Gaga didn’t disclose her reason for skipping out on the 2018 Gala, but I’m sure it was a good one.
The theme that year – “”Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” – was considered controversial by many, and Gaga was one of many celebs who didn’t attend.
Anyway, let’s get back to 2019. As always, our queen of extra came to deliver.
The Oscar-winning star decided to bless us with a staggering four outfit changes for the 2019 Met Gala.
First, she stepped out in a big, pink Brandon Maxwell ballgown with an exaggerated train.
Most people were GAGGING for this look.
Others compared it to Violet, the blueberry-shaped character from the Charlie And The Chocolate Factory series. But like, way more chic.
Then she changed outfits.
In the blink of an eye, Gaga removed her ballgown/coat to reveal a black ballgown underneath.
Then she changed AGAIN.
I don’t know how she wasn’t sweating buckets underneath all these layers but here we are.
The singer revealed yet another pink dress underneath her black number.
This time, she accessorized with a pair of bedazzled sunglasses and a retro cellphone.
The transition felt seamless, choreographed, and EXTRA as only Gaga could pull off.
There’s no doubt in my mind that Gaga was the winner of the Met Gala this year, hands down.
But wait, there’s more!
Just when we thought it was over, Gaga stripped down to her fourth and final outfit of the night.
Which, to be honest, looked like it was just her underwear? We still stan either way!
Leave it to Twitter to go crazy over this iconic fashion moment.
Only Mother Monster could change her look four times at the Met Gala for one red carpet.
If anyone is going to execute Susan Sontag’s Notes On “Camp” essay in fashion form, it’s going to be Lady Gaga.
And wow, did she deliver beyond expectation!
It’s official. Lady Gaga has one the Met Gala.
Which one’s your fav?
For us, every outfit was more fab than the last and all we know is that we feel 100% validated in our undying love for her.
We can’t wait for her next red carpet masterpiece!
