Each job has its own perks and downfalls, but being a firefighter comes with great responsibility. It’s your job to save people’s lives and get out with the least damage possible.
GoPro released footage of a firefighter handling a blazing fire first-hand. The video went viral, and people have grown more appreciative of the underrated heroes.
The most eye-opening video
GoPro posted the footage on its official YouTube channel. The footage shows a ragingly burning home in Santiago, Chile. The brave firemen and firewomen for the Third Fire Company of Ñuñoa are seen entering the home to tame the fire.
One of the firefighters had a GoPro camera on him
The courageous Joseth Abel Espinoza had a GoPro strapped to his chest and you could see him jumping into action instantaneously.
He had a powerful firehose with him, and he successfully extinguished most of the fire with it.
A fiery scene
The almost three-and-a-half-minute video was an adrenaline-packed one as debris fell around Espinoza.
In addition, his colleagues shouting instructions and the sound of crunching metal and water hitting objects add to the intensity of the situation.
The aftermath
Unfortunately, the house was lost. However, no one was hurt because of the fire, which is a big win. Having to maintain the safety of everyone and everything in a matter of seconds makes the firefighter’s job even more arduous, but even more respectable.
People’s reaction to the footage
Social media users took the time to express their admiration for the firefighters’ bravery and their understanding that their job is not for everyone. One user said, “That’s wild. Much respect.” Another said, “I’m never complaining about coming into the office on a Monday again.”
You may only have two minutes to escape
The Red Cross recommends that you “Get out, stay out, and call for help” in the case that a fire breaks out in your home. It is of utmost importance for your health and well-being that you don’t go inside the fire for anything or anyone.
Smoke alarms are your best friend
Installing and regularly checking your smoke alarms can go a long way. You must also formulate an escape plan with your family in case a fire breaks. Remember, you only have two minutes or less to escape. Knowing where you’re headed can save time and your lives.
GoPro issued their thanks
“We thank our first responders and everyday heroes for their selfless actions day in and day out,” GoPro wrote when sharing the video. Their videos normally garner many thousands of views but this one specifically had over 1,800,000 views.
Why do firefighters wear body cameras?
While not mandatory, some firefighters wear body cameras to help capture footage that will improve firefighters’ training and provide visual and audio evidence. Another reason is that it allows commanders to give instructions to their teams, especially through tough situations.
How footage can be a wake-up lesson
The Tulsa Fire Department in Oklahoma shared some home security footage a few months back of a fire sparking as a dog chewed through a portable phone charger with a lithium-ion battery. The purpose was to warn consumers about handling popular power sources correctly.
