There are a lot of holiday traditions that are all incredibly important: getting presents, giving presents, listening to Christmas music, regifting the presents you got but didn’t like, falling asleep after dinner on the couch, and watching classic Christmas movies on television.
At least one of those things has fans worried tradition might soon be changing.
There are a lot of holiday specials that have been on the air longer than some college students have been alive.
Frosty The Snowman, Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer, A Charlie Brown Christmas, A Wonderful Life… the list goes on when it comes to the specials we always gather around the television to watch. We have since we were younger, and we love getting to pass that tradition onto our children too.
For some of those specials, that won’t be happening this year.
With Apple TV acquiring the rights to all the Peanuts specials, all the holiday specials starring Charlie Brown and the gang like It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown; A Charlie Brown Christmas; and A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving will be exclusively available on their platform and won’t air on TV this year .
Some fans are now worried about what this might mean for other holiday classics.
What if online streaming services get the rights to our other beloved holiday specials?! It’s supposed to be a holiday tradition to gather around the TV and watch them, and we’re not really interested in replacing that tradition with one where every year grandchildren across the country have to try to remind their family how to open Netflix.
We can only say one thing: please NO!
Some traditions need to stay the way they are, and we think there’s not much point making them streaming exclusive when most of the people who’d watch them aren’t using streaming services!
How do you feel about this? Let us know in the comments!
