Johnny Depp has always been an eccentric figure in Hollywood, but there are more eyes on him than ever following his controversial resigning from the Fantastic Beasts franchise amid legal drama. The latest photo of him shared on Instagram as the star won an award from the Camerimage festival has drawn a lot of attention and confusion from his fans.

The star is known for his eccentric performances and personality in such dynamic roles like Sweeney Todd, Captain Jack Sparrow, Willy Wonka, and most recently the villainous Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them franchise.

However, Johnny recently announced he was resigning from the role.
“I wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros. from my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and I have respected and agreed to that request,” Johnny announced on Instagram .
Many fans were upset by this news, especially after rumors of his replacement already being found started swirling.
Johnny was recently honored with the Actor With Unique Visual Sensitivity award at this year’s Camerimage festival.
The festival shared a picture of Johnny holding the award in what appears to be some sort of jail cell. Fans were understandably confused.
“Why is he behind bars?” one asked. Another wrote, “This pic is super confusing haha but I’m happy for him anyway!”
“Bizarre pic choice but ok congrats,” one fan commented.
Most fans were just happy to see Johnny recognized.
“We’re so proud of him and are so grateful that you recognize his talent!” one comment read.
