Erika Kirk has reflected on her relationship with late husband Charlie Kirk and recalled the final moments she shared with him before he was killed.
Charlie Kirk died in September
Conservative activist Charlie Kirk was killed on September 10 while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University.
The incident caused a huge stir in American politics and part of the conversation was directed onto his wife, Erika Kirk, and how she might be coping with losing him.
She fell under the spotlight
Erika Kirk became the subject of conversation shortly after her husband was killed, and she recently gave an interview to Fox News where she spoke about her relationship with Kirk.
She recalled a family moment
Kirk recalled a moment she shared with her husband and their daughter, Gigi, the night before he headed to the event.
She said, “He was so excited, He was like ‘I can’t wait, it is going to be the best.’”
Kirk recounted that night
The widow said, “He got up around two o’clock, three-ish to go into the kitchen to grab a snack and our daughter had woken up around that same time.”
“We live in a small space, you can kind of hear when everyone is kind of shuffling around, and so she came to our room and she stayed in our bed.”
She started talking about their family
“He always loved when Gigi slept in our bed because she is little, you know, little ones, they kind of curl up inside of you, and they are just nuzzled in,” Kirk said.
She went on to explain that even though she and Charlie liked having their children join them, it can often turn into chaos because of how fidgety kids can get.
She told him to get a good night’s rest
As she knew her husband would be starting his tour to different college campuses the next day, Erika wanted him to rest well that night,
“So I said, ‘I want you to have a good night’s sleep, go ahead and sleep in her room,” she continued.
She made sure he could rest
“‘And I’ll turn the air down so it’s nice and cozy in there. I just want you to get a good night’s sleep, so you can be amazing tomorrow’,” the wife continued of what she told Charlie.
“So Gigi and I stayed in our room, and that morning he woke up super early and he came into our bedroom, into the bathroom because that is where his wedding ring and necklace was.”
She said she didn’t get to say goodbye
“He came in and he grabbed that and then he left. I didn’t even get to give him a kiss goodbye,” the widow concluded.
Since the shooting, authorities have arrested suspect Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old American citizen who has since been charged with aggravated murder and could be facing the death penalty, per BBC.
