One facet of the family that has remained a constant is that most members get married fairly young.
The Duggars are a pretty famous family.
While they got their fame through the reality shows 19 Kids And Counting and Counting On , the family has continued to gain fame and fans through their social media where they share updates on their lives.
The family is known for its traditions and rules.
Some of the more famous ones involve the fact that the women in the family must wear dresses or long skirts, not pants or shorts.
Of course, some in the family go against that rule , but it’s otherwise stuck to.
A lot of their family rules center around the world of dating and courtships.
Their dates are chaperoned and their phone calls and texts are monitored during their courtships, which all also have to be approved by the patriarch of the family before they can happen.
One trend in a lot of their relationships is that they get engaged and married young.
This isn’t a rule set by the family, but it’s easy to see why it might become a trend for this family.
Derick Dillard, who married Jill Duggar, has just playfully confirmed the reason you might’ve suspected that this happens.
Justin Duggar, who is just 18 years old, announced his engagement to his girlfriend, Claire Spivey, who is just 19.
“You guys are so young!” reads one comment on the announcement post , which was a sentiment echoed in the comments of his sister Jill’s page as well.
“Amazingly surprised that your brother is 17 and engaged!!! Why do you guys rush to [married life]? He’s a kid and Claire too!!!” one fan wrote .
Jill’s husband, Derick Dillard, responded with a very blunt answer.
“Because we want to have s*x,” he responded.
The Duggars are a very religious family who do not believe in premarital s*x. While many of us may have privately assumed that this could be a factor that played into these young engagements, it was shocking to see Derick say it plainly!
Fans were quite amused by Derick’s response.
“This is the funniest thing I’ve ever seen,” reads one reply, while another commenter said, “I knew it bro! Thanks for confirming it!”
Even Jill responded, writing, “You’re more popular than me, babe,” in response to the over 200+ replies Derick got.
We’re glad to see the family having fun!
Jill and Derick are known to play by their own rules when it comes to the family.
Jill and Derick no longer appear on the Counting On program, and while they explained that part of that has to do with having some distance between them and the rest of their family, they also have gone against some of the more strict rules to live their own lives.
Along with Jill’s decision to begin wearing pants, fans also noticed that Jill was enjoying a drink in a recent Instagram post.
While the family generally disapproves of alcohol, it appears Jill is making her own rules! When a fan asked if her drink was virgin or regular, Jill replied, “regular.”
We’re glad to see the Duggars enjoying themselves and having a little fun!
