The Internet is the perfect place for people to debate online about the way in which we do everyday things—like eating. Some food that we eat on a regular basis seems to be second nature, we do it and don’t think twice about it.
But, there are some food habits that we have that could be counterproductive to our health and nutrition, turns out.
Fruit is something that seems straightforward when eating.
From apples to bananas to oranges, the way in which we eat them is almost second nature.
We peel oranges, we peel bananas, and oftentimes we may peel apples if we feel like it. But, there are some fruits that we absolutely always peel.
For those who like Kiwis, they’re the fruit you always end up peeling.
Kiwis are not everyone’s favorite fruit, but those who enjoy them know that they are usually a fruit that you get to peel.
The outside is similar to a coconut, brown and fuzzy, and definitely not something you would enjoy eating much.
Although we all peel our kiwis, it turns out eating the skin is better for us.
While many people peel their kiwis, it turns out that people online know better than us that eating the kiwi skin is much more nutritious and healthy for you.
And, of course, the first question we are asking is—how?
One Reddit user said that eating the skin is actually healthy for you.
“Kiwi skins contain a high concentration of nutrients, especially fiber, folate and vitamin E.
Eating the skin of a kiwi can increase its fiber content by 50%, boost folate by 32% and raise vitamin E concentration by 34%, compared to eating the flesh alone,” said Reddit user Kavog.
The skin also contains other healthy supplements that we all need.
“The skin of the kiwi contains many antioxidants. In fact, there is a higher concentration of antioxidants in the skin than in the flesh of the fruit,” they added.
So, basically, if you peel off the skin, you’re not getting as much “health” as you could.
While the skin is good for you, the feeling is kind of strange.
I’m not quite sure that I would be interested in eating a kiwi with the skin on it, because it pretty much is fuzzy and kind of a weird kind of texture. The fuzziness just isn’t it for me.
Turns out, some people thought it was actually bad for you to eat the skin.
“I thought it was poisonous or at least inedible… It isn’t? I get awful stinging/swelling of my lips and tongue when trying to eat kiwi without cutting all the peel off first and rinsing off any of those little “hairs” that might be on the fruit,” said northsea86.
Many people online agreed with the Reddit user, trying to convince others to eat the skin, too.
“To everyone balking at the idea of eating the fuzzy skin, just try it. It’s only a bit more fuzzy than a peach and tends to be even juicier. Just bite into it like an apple and you barely notice the fuzz. Plus you don’t have to cut it or peel it,” said jonnycrush87.
Some people have been doing it forever.
“Wife couldn’t believe I eat the kiwi whole, it’s not that big of a deal to me.. Been doing it forever.. I just cut off the ends, quarter it and chow down. I can honestly say I like it with the skin better anyways,” another person added.

“Honestly, the most I’d do with a Kiwi is cut off the top and bottom bits and then eat it with the skin. This was when I was a kid, though. Completely unknowingly doing myself a favor, I guess,” said Batstronaut.
