California governor Gavin Newsom has proposed a six-month paid parental leave for parents who have welcomed a newborn or an adopted child .
This would be a substantial upgrade to the state’s current six-week policy, and would also make it the most generous paid parental leave in the country.
What do you think? Are you ready to pack your bags and head to Cali with your growing family?
The new policy would allow two parents or caregivers to take advantage of the leave, with each parent receiving three months off.

During this time, the parents would receive 70% of their salary. The new bill would also include job security for the parents who choose to take the leave.
Many people are applauding this initiative.
Some people took to Twitter to express their thoughts.
They hope that other states will follow California’s example and introduce their own paid parental leave policies.
Other recognized the importance of paid parental leave.
Studies have shown that parental leave increases the health of newborns, encourages breastfeeding, and has a positive impact on the mental health of parents.
Even though this is a huge step forward, the United States still lags behind other countries when it comes to parental leave.

In Canada, parents can choose between a 12-month or 18-month paid parental leave.
The United States is one of only two countries in the world that does not require parental leave.
Lawmakers will vote on the proposal on June 15.

If passed, this parental leave policy could set a precedent for the country and it’s possible that other states could follow suit.
