A bride decided to uninvite more than half of her wedding guests two weeks before the big day and when she explained the reason they were furious about it.
A woman shared this story online
A poster on the Reddit forum ‘Wedding Shaming’ detailed the stressful situation surrounding her cousin’s wedding.
The original poster (OP) started, “I’m still processing this. Wedding was supposed to be this Saturday in Asheville.”
She explained her cousin’s personality

The poster wrote about the bride, saying, “My cousin has always been into spiritual stuff. Crystals, tarot, astrology, whatever. Fine. Not my thing, but you do you.”
“But about six months ago she started seeing this “spiritual advisor” who she treats like a therapist/life coach/oracle all rolled into one.”
The wedding planning changed last minute

OP said that the wedding planning had been ‘pretty normal up until last week’, and that 200 people had been invited with the venue and catering booked.
“I’m a bridesmaid so I’ve been somewhat involved in the planning,” the poster noted.
But things changed quickly

Two weeks before the wedding, the bride texted her bridesmaids saying that they needed to have an ‘emergency call’.
“We get on Zoom and she tells us she had a session with her psychic and the psychic told her that having over 80 people at the wedding would “disrupt the spiritual alignment of the union” and create “energetic blocks in the marriage.””
So the guest list was cut

This resulted in the bride and groom cutting the guest list down to 75 people, using an ‘energy compatibility chart’ made by the psychic to decide who would make the list.
Guests who weren’t in alignment with their ‘vibrational frequency’ got cut from the wedding.
The bride even cut family members

OP said that those who got cut included the groom’s ‘entire extended family except his parents, most of the bride’s coworkers, and about half of our family, including my parents.’
“MY PARENTS who already bought plane tickets and booked a hotel.”
This caused chaos around the event

The couple informed guests of the decision via email and things got quite hectic from there, with some guests calling in tears, and some demanding their gifts back.
“Here’s the kicker – I didn’t get uninvited,” OP wrote. “I’m still a bridesmaid. But my parents aren’t invited anymore.”
But the bridesmaid didn’t want to do it anymore

“I told her I’m not coming if my parents aren’t invited and she said that’s my choice but I’m ‘choosing fear over love,’” OP wrote.
“Then she asked if I’m still doing my bridesmaid duties this week because they need help setting up.”
She’s not sure how things will go

OP concluded her post saying that the wedding is supposed to be in four days and only 30 people have confirmed they’re coming.
She added that the groom seems ‘completely checked out, his family is furious, and the bride keeps posting Instagram stories about ‘honoring your truth even when others don’t understand.’”
People chimed in under the post

Users weighed in on the situation under the post. One person wrote, “So she thinks you’ll still want to show up and provide free labor when you have said you won’t come to the wedding? That’s a new level of entitlement there.”
Another said, “You definitely shouldn’t go, but I also want you to liveblog it.”
