One sister of the groom has taken to Reddit to express her frustration with how her brother’s wedding was turned into a talent show.
She explained the issue online
In a post on the Reddit forum ‘Wedding Drama’, the groom’s sister explained the issue that has left her furious at the bride’s family.
She said that they ‘hijacked the spotlight’ during the wedding reception with a ‘surprise talent show.’
She was asking for advice
The groom’s sister wrote the post asking if she should speak up on her dislike of the situation of ‘just keep quiet’ and ‘let it go’.
She explained that the bride’s family is ‘very into performing arts’ so they put on ‘skits, dances, or karaoke’ at every family gathering.
The groom’s family didn’t expect them to do it at the wedding
The sister wrote, “We all knew this going in, but none of us thought it would spill over into the wedding,” adding, “The reception went in a direction that none of us were expecting.”
She explained that after the first dance, a member of the bride’s family took the microphone and said that they had ‘prepared a little entertainment.’
She found that it was sweet at first

The groom’s sister said that it was initially a sweet gesture, with the bride’s little nieces starting the show with a dance.
“But then it just, kept going,” she wrote, adding that multiple family members performed everything from poetry to songs to comedy sketches.
It lasted for over an hour

The groom’s sister wrote, “This went on for over an hour, back-to-back, and the DJ basically had to just stand aside.”
She wasn’t upset by the length of the unexpected show but more because it diverted attention away from the bride and groom.
She felt the couple were ‘sidelined’

“The awkward part was that my brother and his new wife were basically sidelined during all of this,” the Reddit user wrote. “The spotlight completely shifted from them to the performances.”
The groom’s family were ‘bored’ by it

The sister went on, “Guests on our side of the family were visibly bored and kept whispering about when the dance floor was going to open.”
“At one point, my grandmother leaned over to me and asked if she could leave early because she didn’t come for a talent show.”
She said that the brother tried to ‘laugh it off’

The Redditor added that by the time the show ended, ‘a good chunk of guests’ had already left the wedding.
“My brother tried to laugh it off and said he didn’t want to hurt his new in-laws’ feelings, but I could tell he was frustrated,” she said. “He and his wife barely got to enjoy their own reception.”
She’s now asking if she should bring it up
The groom’s sister is now debating whether to raise these concerns in order to avoid it happening ‘again at future events’, or if she should let her brother ‘deal with it if he feels it’s an issue.’
Redditors advised her to stay out of it, arguing that bringing up the reception could turn into a bigger issue by ‘driving a wedge between the newlyweds’.
They told her it wasn’t ‘her place’

The top comment reads, “Not your place. Let it go,” with another user agreeing, “There is absolutely zero reason for you to insert yourself in this issue.”
Another wrote, “Now it is over, and there is absolutely nothing for you to gain by rubbing salt in his wound.”
