Barbara Walters died last Friday at the age of 93. The legendary journalist and media face made global headlines shortly before the weekend as her passing was announced. She was born on September 25, 1929 and died while home in New York.
A Sad Loss
With a career that spanned more than 50 years, Barbara was a household name. The broadcaster was the first woman to cohost a nightly news program back in 1976. She was also one of the first women to command $1 million per year, this for a five-year contract with ABC

She “passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones. She lived her life with no regrets. She was a trailblazer not only for female journalists but for all women,” Barbara’s spokesperson Cindi Berge told CNN in a statement.

In 2014, Barbara made headlines for exiting The View , a show she helped to create back in 1997.
“How do you say goodbye to something like 50 years in television?” she stated. “How proud when I see all the young women who are making and reporting the news. If I did anything to help make that happen, that is my legacy. From the bottom of my heart, to all of you with whom I have worked and who have watched and been by my side, I can say: ‘Thank you.’”

Walter was behind some of the most iconic and famous interviews in history. She interviewed Monica Lewinsky in 1999 – she was also the one asking questions to former Presidents of the U.S. Barack Obama and Richard Nixon over the years.
