If you’ve ever slept next to a snoring person, you know how difficult it is to sleep.
So imagine doing that every night for the rest of your life…
That’s the scenario many husbands and wives around the world are facing. Everyone except Chrissy and Tom Clark. They’re a married couple of 16 years who recently went viral on TikTok for sharing that they sleep in separate rooms!
In an interview with Buzzfeed, Chrissy shared that she and her husband began sleeping in separate beds after she became sick and developed a persistent cough.

“Because of my cough, one of us would end up sleeping on the couch or in the guest bedroom,” she said .
But once the cough went away, they found that they liked their new sleeping arrangements.

“I need a dark room, and my husband sleeps better with natural light. I sleep better on a firm bed, and he loves the pillow top. We had tried several mattresses over the years and could never find one we both loved. Not to mention his snoring and taking all the covers.”
Sleeping in individual beds has improved their sleep — and their marriage.

“Sleep quality has improved our marriage,” she said. “I am not cranky, and neither is he. We still cuddle in bed and watch TV, but when it is time to sleep, he will go to his bedroom to sleep.”
While this works amazingly well for the couple, not everyone is convinced.

A huge debate started on TikTok after Chrissy responded to a woman who said that society needs to start normalizing couples sleeping in separate bedrooms.
She did so by showing people her and her husband’s separate bedrooms.
In the viral video that’s been watched more than a million times, she began by showing off her husband’s room.

Then, she shared her own, which is right down the hall. It’s bigger, obv.
Soon, a debate started in the comments, with people sharing their thoughts on sleeping arrangements.

Many shared that sleeping together is essential for a good marriage. “I love my husband unconditionally and accept ALL of his flaws. I never want to roll over and him not be there,” one wrote.
“I can’t sleep without my husband. How?? Why???” another wrote.
“Nah there’s a certain intimacy when sleeping and waking up next to your partner.”

“I want a wife not a roommate,” a third argued.
One person even questioned the point of being married if you can’t sleep next to them.
Then, there were people like Chrissy and Tom, who are perfectly fine with a “sleep divorce.”

“We just need to normalize ‘do what works for you and your significant other’ PERIOD!!” one wrote. Some joked that Tom’s room was decorated better and that some users like sleeping in separate houses.
Many shared their own stories of sleeping away from their partner, including the benefits they’ve gained.

“We got a sleep divorce years ago. We both sleep better. He snores. And it was separate rooms or me going to prison for suffocating him in his sleep,” this user commented.
Another wrote that they’ve been sleeping separately for 21 years.
Some of the reasons users expressed they do this is because of snoring, their partner stealing the blankets, one person working night shifts, one person wanting to watch TV before bed, and so on.
Hey, whatever works for them, right?! Now if we could just normalize separate bathrooms…
