Oscar -winning legend, William Hurt , who found himself in massive success in the 1980s has died.
Hurt was most recognized for Children of a Lesser God, The Big Chill, and in his more recent years, for his contribution to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
William Hurt has sadly passed away at 71.
He was suffering from prostate cancer that unfortunately spread to his bones in 2018.
His son William released a statement, according to the New York Post:
“It is with great sadness that the Hurt family mourns the passing of William Hurt, beloved father and Oscar-winning actor, on March 13, 2022, one week before his 72nd birthday,’’
“He died peacefully, among family, of natural causes. The family requests privacy at this time.’’
In the 80s, he was nominated three years in a row for an Oscar, which isn’t something many can say has happened for them.
But eventually, he won the award.

It was in 1985 that he won for his role in Kiss the Spider Woman where he played a gay convict. But he will live on for more than just this role, that much goes without saying to be sure.
However, despite the fact that he rose to fame, he wasn’t ready for everything that came with it.
In fact, he hated how his privacy was constantly being invaded, and hoped that he could still have somewhat of a normal lifestyle.
“It’s not right that my privacy is invaded to the extent that it is,” Hurt said in 1989.

“I’m a very private man, and I have the right to be. I never said that because I was an actor you can have my privacy, you can steal my soul. You can’t.”
In fact, it was what resulted in him finding solace in various substances.

“I was utterly miserable and, finally, I had been miserable enough, long enough, and I said, ‘I’m finished, I can’t hack it, can’t do it,’” Hurt said in 1989 to the Washington Post.
Online, fans of the actor began to post their tributes.
While older generations were fawning over his past films, younger folks were thanking the star for his contribution to the MCU, where he played a character that you really either hated or loved (but he played it beautifully).
“How good was William Hurt?” another user tweeted.
“He got an Oscar nomination for 5 minutes of screen time in A History of Violence. And if you’re ready for a mind [expletive] watch Altered States. Rest In Peace .”
“Very sorry to hear about the passing of William Hurt.” tweeted famous author Stephen King.
“He was a fine actor, an Academy Award winner. He also did a classic reading of my story “Low Men in Yellow Coats ,” from HEARTS IN ATLANTIS. I loved hitchhiking on his immense talent.”
Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
His contribution to the world of cinema will always be remembered.
RIP.
