Sometimes, we Oscar viewers can get too caught up in the fashion police and social media reactions of it all. We can forget that this show, and these awards, symbolize so much important history and personal victories. This show can connect generations and make even the most stoic movie critic tear up.
One of these special moments happened at Sunday night’s Oscars, and I’m so excited to share it with you all.
If you haven’t seen the 2021 version of “West Side Story” I highly encourage you to.

Fans first fell in love with this Broadway musical-turned-film back in 1961. The film, starring Natalie Wood, George Chakiris, Richard Beymer, Russ Tamblyn and Rita Moreno was a sensation.
At the 1962 Academy Awards, the film won 10 of the 11 categories they were nominated in including Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress.
Rita Monerno won the award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Anita and now, the 90-year-old got the honor of watching the same award for the same role be accepted by Ariana DeBose at the 2022 Academy Awards.
The amazing moment was a heartwarming one for fans of the iconic musical film.
Ariana made an exceptional Anita, as did Rita, and it’s just such a cool time to be a lover of cinema!
