Ryan Reynolds is participating in a superhero version of fantasy football for charity, and one of the requirements of the league is to…trash talk your opponents.
Which he did. A lot. Oof .
Okay, so here’s the background you need.
AGBO Films started a Superhero Fantasy Football League for any actor that appeared in a superhero film.
AGBO is owned by Joe and Anthony Russo, who you may know from little movies like Avengers: Endgame and Captain America: The Winter Soldier .

Of course, we have Ryan Reynolds in the mix. He’s joined by Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr, Chris Pratt, Anthony Mackie, Karen Gillan — you know what, you get the point.
It’s basically every superhero actor you love.
They’re going to play fantasy football for charity.
“The idea behind the league is, we all already play fantasy football. Why don’t we put some of that energy towards something productive, and good, and charitable.” Joe Russo told ESPN .
The winner gets $100,000 donated to a charity of their choice.
Part of participating involves a lot of trash-talking, which luckily almost all of them are experts at. (According to Joe Russo, anyway.)
If it feels like I’m over-explaining this, it’s because I have no idea how fantasy football works. We’re learning together, y’all.
Chris Pratt kicked off the trash talking early.
He started out lightly, by tweeting: “Humbled to be listed alongside these two amazing actors. (I’m in the lead to be clear so I should be listed first and I’m filing an official complaint.)”
And then he escalated things, posting stats that showed he was winning.
Ryan was not impressed.
Pratt got Reynolds, so clearly it was Reynolds’ turn to do his own trash talking.
He upped his game by recording a video in what I’m just assuming is his children’s bedroom.
Ryan Reynolds posted his trash talk video on social media.
His charity: Sick Kids Foundation of Canada.
“They do so much for kids across Canada, but not only that. They do so much for kids all across the world. Amazing people. Can’t wait.”
He isn’t sure how to approach his target, however.
His target: Karen Gillan.
“So, here’s the thing. Full disclosure. According to Joe and Anthony Russo, I’m supposed to create a trash-talking video in order to be in this league.”
And then he just started lying.
“I’m not super comfortable with trash talk because I’m Canadian, I try to maintain a level of politeness. But anyway, my opponent this week is Karen Gillan.
And she’s, like, nice.”
Ryan Reynolds claiming he isn’t good at trash-talking like his whole social media presence doesn’t completely negate that…we stan a lying king.
He wanted someone different.
“I thought I was gonna get Chris Pratt, or RDJ, or Anthony Mackie, or Chris Evans — [expletive] that guy — but no, I got Karen.
And so I sort of feel like I’m going to tread a bit more lightly.”
Yeah, spoiler alert: he did not tread lightly.
“I’m gonna save the really intense, hard stuff for next week maybe. But, in the meantime, I’m going to trash talk Karen Gillan. Nicely.
So, here goes. Karen, where to begin?”
I literally cannot transcribe what he said next.
Not because it was too offensive (it was), but because Ryan bleeped out most of what he said.
Here’s what I could make out around the censoring: “dolphin humping,” “pumpkin butter,” “champagne enema,” ” Jumanji ,” and “a TARDIS.”

“I feel really good about this!” He said, followed by a classic use of the “The More You Know” NBC meme.

Every conversation would be improved if The Rock was in it. That’s not just my opinion, by the way. That’s just a fact.
It turns out, Karen can dish it out too.
Karen survived being on the Doctor Who set, where her co-stars Matt Smith and Arthur Darvill repeatedly called her “moon face.”
She might be the person most prepared for the trash talk, tbh. Don’t fire up a Scot.
