Music star Melissa Etheridge is saying goodbye to her good friend, David Crosby after the news of his death made headlines. The singer took to social media in the wake of his passing to thank him for “the gift of family.”

The rock songstress took to her official Instagram page to share a throwback photo of herself and the late musician while expressing her grief. The star penned that she was grieving the loss of her friend and the biological father of her children. She wrote, “He gave me the gift of family. I will forever be grateful to him, Django, and Jan. His music and legacy will inspire many generations to come. A true treasure.”

Crosby who passed away at 81, was quite active on social media up until Wednesday. His final tweet that day was a joke referencing heaven. He shared, ‘I heard the place is overrated… cloudy.”

His former CSNY partner, Graham Nash shared a tribute on social media referencing how they had been at loggerheads after the group split. Nash expressed his grief noting the demise of his fellow star. He went on to address how people often focus on their tumultuous relationship while relaying that Crosby always matters to him even more than the “pure joy of the music we created together.”

Last year, Crosby announced that he was done with live performances. He had shared at the time that he was getting old and could not do it any longer. Crosby relayed that he did not have the strength or stamina.
