Natalie Portman has a few choice words about singer-songwriter, Moby, after he claimed in his recent memoir to have dated her back in the ’90s — and the whole situation is, well, frankly, disconcerting.
Musician, Moby, recently released a memoir titled “Then It Fell Apart”.
In the book, he claims that he had a romantic relationship with Natalie Portman in 1999 while he was 33 and she was 20.
Only, the thing is, if you do some low-level investigative research using Google, you’ll find that Natalie Portman would have been 17 and 18 in 1999.
You’d think that Moby would have done some quick fact-checking before calling somebody out by name in his official memoir — but no.
But if he thought he could make an allegation like that and fans would be none the wiser, he’d be wrong. Natalie made sure of that.
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar , Natalie set the record straight.
“I was surprised to hear that he characterized the very short time that I knew him as dating,” she said.
“Because my recollection is a much older man being creepy with me when I just had graduated high school.”
She went on, describing Moby’s recollection of their relationship “disturbing”.
“I was a fan and went to one of his shows when I had just graduated,” she explained .
“When we met after the show, he said, ‘Let’s be friends,'” she continued.
“He was on tour and I was working, shooting a film, so we only hung out a handful of times before I realized that this was an older man who was interested in me in a way that felt inappropriate .”
Natalie isn’t a stranger to this kind of behavior.
At The Women’s March last year, she said, “A countdown was started on my local radio show to my 18th birthday — euphemistically the date that I would be legal to sleep with and movie reviewers talked about my budding breasts in reviews.”
Moby caught wind of Natalie’s response to all this, and he fired back with “proof” that isn’t a smoking-gun by any standard.
He posted a throwback photo of the pair on Instagram — as though that would be enough evidence to contradict Natalie’s statement.
He included a lengthy comeback caption. But left out the fact that he got her age wrong in his memoir.
He insinuates that Natalie is denying ever dating him because she is possibly embarrassed or regretful.
Which brings us to now. Moby is still persisting on social media that his relationship with Natalie did, in fact, happen.
“In my memoir, Then It Fell Apart, I respectfully and honestly describe the brief, innocent, and consensual romantic involvement I had with Natalie Portman in 1999,” he wrote in a since-deleted post on Instagram.
“But she’s denying that we ever dated, even though in the past she’s publicly discussed our involvement,” he continued.
“And there’s ample photographic evidence that we briefly dated and then were friends (some pictures included in this post).”
“So what should I do? What do you do when people believe lies and accusations and not actual photographs and evidence?,” he went on.
“I want to take the high road, but I honestly don’t know what to do. It’s one thing to be lied about, and entirely another when someone’s lies result in physical threats from complete strangers.”
Look, Moby, my dude, we want to believe you. But let’s look at the facts:
Firstly, just because you have photos standing next to somebody does not mean that you were romantically involved with them. That is not proof .
Especially not this photo.
They really could not have looked any less intimate there if they tried.
Not to mention, you can clearly see another person’s hand in this photo. Evidently, this was a group shot — making this photo even less couply.
Moby has taken to Instagram yet again.
He posted this picture with the caption, “You know what’s nice? That nature doesn’t care. Also, I can choose frustration and bitterness, or I can remember that as an activist I’m here to help, not to be helped.”
“Adversity is no excuse for abandoning integrity and principles,” he continued.
“So, attack me, slander me, lie about me, in the meantime I’ll be trying to save animals and help stop humans from destroying the only home we have. Bye.”
Also, Natalie was 17 and 18 in 1999. Not 20.
Surely, somebody should have fact-checked this real quick before the memoir was published.

Just today, Moby posted one final message.
He says that, “clearly all of this has been my own fault,” and that he “behaved inconsiderately and disrespectfully, both in 2019 and 1999.”
Finally, if someone looks back on their time knowing you and recalls you as being a “creepy” older man, you should probably just take the L and move on.
Some may admire his persistence — trying to prove that his relationship with Natalie wasn’t fictional.
But on the other hand, he should probably be more concerned that somebody he’s saying he “dated” is calling what he thinks they had “creepy” and “inappropriate”.
