Fear Ruled Jinger’s Childhood

During a recent interview with People , Jinger spoke candidly about the difficulties she experienced as a child due to her Christian faith. She began by noting that fear was a huge part of her childhood.
The Teachings Were Strict
According to Jinger, she believed she had to wear only skirts and dresses to please God. The teachings also made her think that music with drums, the places she visited, and wrong friendships could cause her harm.
Some Sports Seemed Sinful
Furthermore, Jinger made the public understand that the teachings were so strict that when her family went to play a sport called broomball, she felt terrified, as she was almost convinced she would defy God.
Jinger Was Terrified
According to the onscreen star, she thought she could get killed in an accident on the way because she wasn’t sure if God wanted her to stay home and read her bible instead. The fear kept Jinger crippled with anxiety and terrified of the outside world.
When Did Everything Change?
However, her perspective began to change in 2017. Jinger told the outlet she began to see the negatives of the teachings of disgraced minister Bill Gothard, who established the Institute in Basic Life Principles, an organization her Christian family belonged to.
The Teachings Were Destructive
Jinger disclosed that Bill’s teachings were so harmful that they became evident in the lives of her friends and those who grew up in the same community. According to her, there were a lot of “cult-like tendencies.”
Jinger Found A New Path
Eventually, Jinger couldn’t stand the teachings anymore and left the Institute in Basic Life Principles entirely. However, she maintained her Christian stance but changed her understanding of how to live her faith.
She Hopes To Inspire Others
Now, Jinger is focused on inspiring others with her new memoir Becoming Free Indeed, detailing how she left behind her childhood fears and embraced a new life. She also has the support of her family members, who seem okay with Jinger’s decision.
Jinger’s Mom Is Behind Her
