Bonnie Lynn Raitt was born in Burbank, California on November 8, 1949. At the age of 8, she started playing the guitar after receiving it as a Christmas gift. In 1967, she completed her high school education at Oakwood Friends School in Poughkeepsie. At Radcliffe College, Raitt studied social relations and African studies. In 1991, the singer married actor Michael O’Keefe but later divorced.

Raitt is famous for her activism which is related to environmental causes. She was also a founding member of Musicians United for Safe Energy.
