Hi. It’s 2019, and we are done shaming women about their bodies. Or about their everyday habits, like how they eat.
It’s over, folks! This toxic trend has to leave the station. Because for celebs like Chrissy Teigen, the open discussion of her body, her parenting skills, and who she is as a person is an everyday nightmare.

Chrissy Teigen is a model, author, food aficionado, Twitter queen, and TV personality.
She has two children, Miles and Luna, with her musician husband, John Legend.
They’re basically the cutest family ever. Yes, I am biased.
Chrissy is open about the reality of having kids.
Two pregnancies = one really different body. Chrissy isn’t bothered about showing how much she’s changed.
She frequently posts photos of her stretch marks and her #mombody, which is liberating as hell. The bounce back that most celebrities do after having a baby isn’t realistic.
And she’s never been a shy woman.
Everything from from the changes in her body to the weird stuff her kids do is up for discussion.
However, amongst the lighthearted jokes she makes while sharing her life are some seriously difficult things.
She struggled after having Luna.
In an open essay for Glamour , Chrissy painstakingly detailed the struggle that she had after giving birth to Luna.
“I couldn’t figure out why I was so unhappy. I blamed it on being tired and possibly growing out of the role: “Maybe I’m just not a goofy person anymore. Maybe I’m just supposed to be a mom,” she wrote.
She had postpartum depression.
The usual crying bouts were there, as well as the inability to move.
“Most days were spent on the exact same spot on the couch and rarely would I muster up the energy to make it upstairs for bed. John would sleep on the couch with me, sometimes four nights in a row,” She wrote.
But pain was also a factor.
Depression is inherently painful, and hard on your body. Chrissy didn’t eat, or sleep in her bed.
She also was in excruciating pain.
“During that time my bones hurt to the core. I had to go to the hospital; the back pain was so overwhelming. I felt like I was in an episode of Grey’s Anatomy .”
Thankfully, her doctor recognized what she was going through.
She was put on antidepressants and slowly recovered.
In her essay, she wrote about the lack of access many women have to what she did when she was struggling:
“I look around every day and I don’t know how people do it. I’ve never had more respect for mothers, especially mothers with postpartum depression.”
For her second child, she put zero pressure on herself.
Unlike many celebrity moms, Chrissy decided to work with what nature gave her: the body of a mom.
She started off her social media presence post-birth by showing off what a postpartum body really looks like.
And she decided to let her body guide the way.
Instead of trying to lose all of her baby weight, Chrissy decided to make peace with the body that she’s settled into.
She likes her kids, and she likes food. And those things can exist hand in hand for her.
She also talked about another side effect of her depression.
After she had Luna, the lack of eating dropped her weight like a stone.
It wasn’t a healthy weight loss, and her body was struggling. Now, she’s healthy and happy, and that’s seriously all that matters.
She also has a valid reason for letting us in on her body.
It seems insane for this to come from a celebrity. Theoretically, Chrissy has access to special trainers, chefs, and diets.
But she’s not interested in that, and it’s not realistic for the rest of us, either.
She’s happier than ever.
These days, Chrissy is a thriving mother of two who has two delicious cookbooks out for our consumption.
She’s living her life on her terms, and seeing that normalized can help the rest of us become more okay with our lives and bodies, too.
Even if we’re not celebrities.
And she’s happy to let us know what she’s up to on the daily.
This day sounds like a dream come true.
Of everything she ate that day, I’m probably the most jealous that she got Korean BBQ. Great, now I’m fully craving Korean BBQ.
