What do you picture when you think of celebrities? Or of fame? For many of us, it’s red carpets, fortune, and the flashes of photographers. It’s movie premieres and charmed lives. Something that we wish that we had.
For Drew Barrymore, the reality is quite different. She started the Instagram tag #TheWayItLooksToUs to show us how life really is for her.

Kids, relationships, and everything in between
One of her first posts was about the expectations vs reality of having kids. They’re supposed to be quiet and well-behaved, but having kids is never that simple. In the end, it wasn’t that big a deal that her kids spread powdered sugar everywhere–it can be cleaned up, and the memory will last a lifetime.
Fitness
Another reality? What working out and exercise are really like.
Our bodies aren’t always perfect, and they take work to maintain. Drew shed 25 pounds through healthy dieting and exercise, just like the rest of us.

She went on to say, “But it all takes work! Which is good because we can achieve it.”
Through hard work and dedication, we can be our healthiest selves. But sometimes, life just gets in the way.
Struggle doesn’t discriminate
“What I can’t hide is that some days are difficult and not so pretty…” Drew said. “and I realize I am lucky with solvable problems and my gratitude is never ending.”

“But sometimes life can just get to you and take you down for a minute! But we cry and then pick ourselves up and put one foot in front of the other). Can anyone relate?”
Shattering illusions is freeing
It may seem silly, but celebrities sharing intimate looks into the reality of their lives helps alleviate the societal pressure put upon us to try and be perfect.
If they can be messy, raw, and vulnerable, then so can we.
