Dove Cameron is going braless for a good reason: to change the world as we know it.

Sadly, it’s been a hard few months for the cast and crew after the tragic passing of their friend and co-star, Cameron Boyce.

After going through such a loss like that, it’s sucks that the star is now in the middle of such unnecessary Instagram drama.
Dove’s latest selfie just proved that it’s 2019 and women are still being shamed for going braless.

Besides being a Disney star, she also just joined the #FreeTheNipple campaign.
She did so in an epic way by posting a #fire braless selfie on the ‘gram.
For those who weren’t too pleased about it, it’s most likely because of her Disney history.
Where everyone expects the stars to stay children forever, apparently.
Which is kind of hilarious because we all know by now that Disney stars rarely grow up without pushing the limits a little.
As we’ve seen from the likes of Miley Cyrus, Lindsay Lohan, and Bella Thorne, they take more heat than anyone for going against the Disney cookie-cutter mold.
But what Dove shared wasn’t just a braless selfie. Her bold fashion statement came with a very empowering message.
In the caption of her post, she shared a passage from the book Singing Woman: Voices of the Sacred Feminine .
“Women HAVE a history that has been systematically suppressed,” she began.
“Our collective spirituality has largely been tainted to fit the needs of men and those in power.”
“This has a profound effect on the self-esteem of girls and the women they become. This influence can be seen in their life choices, partners and financial security for the rest of their lives.”
“It also has an effect on the way their future partners will view them – and ultimately treat them. Our girls deserve better.”
Then, she posted another selfie with another empowering quote.
“This is the age of the ascendant Feminine Principle. In such times as these, women are able to look at themselves with new concepts of value and brilliance.”
“However you inhabit and express being Woman, embrace yourself in that way today!”

Dove isn’t the only celeb to share a braless selfie for a good cause.
Halle Berry joined the no bra club, proving that there’s nothing to hide or be ashamed about.
And you can bet that Halle is receiving nothing but positive comments for her pic.
Which, you know, is messed up.
Anyway, Dove’s message has really resonated with fans who can support going braless now and again.
SAME, GIRL.
Others defended the star from any shaming comments.
“She doesn’t need to be told what to wear. She can wear what she wants,” one person wrote.
And: “There is no reason at all that you should be ashamed of your body or yourself.”
Speaking of the shaming comments, they have been so ridiculous considering she’s 23 and it’s HER BODY.
“JUST STOP!!! I’ve unfollowed you because of your stupid crap!!!!”
Some of the negative comments actually got to Dove, and she decided to fire back.
“Feeling empowered w/ no bra on rn bc of this,” one follower wrote.
“Take ur [expletive] bra off if you want,” the actress replied
“Don’t hide your natural body. People are weird. Just because it’s the ‘the norm’ now to be ashamed of nipples or your period doesn’t mean they are actually bad or embarrassing???” she wrote.
“Women’s bodies are the literal coolest,” she went on.
“Anyone who tells you to hide it slut-shames you or puts you down because of your gender can [expletive] RIGHT off. And I would say we should sit and explain it to them, but really, who has the time? Enjoy your life and empower others.”
But at the end of the day, it’s the positive comments that matter since she’s breaking down societal norms.
“I’m proud to say you are my role model because you’re always so positive and you stand up for what’s right.”
Hell, she’s 23 and I want her to be MY role model.
