Speaking about her 1970s beauty pageant film, Misbehaviour , Keira revealed she related to the script, saying: “I read the script and I naturally totally agreed with the second-wave feminists [protesting] yet I’ve made most of my money as a model [for Chanel].”
“I go on red carpets where you’re given marks out of 10 and you have cameras up and down your body.”
“I think that’s the complexity of being a woman in the modern age,” she continued. “Still the No. 1 career in the world — the only one — where a woman can earn more than a man is modelling. Or prostitution. And that says everything it needs to say to young women.”
Now, during her most recent interview with *Harper’s Bazaar UK* the actress experienced harassment while **talking about it** with the publication.
The pair conducted the interview while walking around London and chatted about feminism, misogyny, and what it means to be a woman in the entertainment industry.
“It was when women started listing all the precautions they take when they walk home to make sure they’re safe, and I thought, I do every single one of them, and I don’t even think about it,” the actress shared with Lydia.
“It’s [explective] depressing,” she added, just before being approached by a man off the street.
“With immaculate timing, a lone male stranger wanders down the street towards us and starts shouting at her,” *Harper’s Bizarre’s Lydia Slater writes.
“Do you go to this school? You look very young!’ ‘Thank you,’ she says politely, as we hastily depart to find sanctuary in a nearby garden square; he follows us there a few minutes later,” she writes.
“I think it’s quite interesting talking about this while being chased around,” Keira adds after their encounter.
When asked if she had ever been harassed herself before this, the actress replied: “Yes! I mean, everybody has. Literally, I don’t know anyone who hasn’t been, in some way, whether it’s being flashed at, or groped, or some guy saying they’re going to slit your throat, or punching you in the face, or whatever it is, everybody has.”
Unfortunately, this is an experience so many women can relate to all too well.
