We’re all for seeing actors’ transformations.
We were wowed by them in several highly-acclaimed films such as The Curious Case of Benjamin Button , The Dark Knight , and Harry Potter .

But it’s not always tastefully done. These 10+ hair and makeup mistakes from movies fans didn’t notice are proof of that.
These actors should probably remain unrecognizable for a while after this.
1. Taylor Lautner’s wig in *The Twilight Saga: New Moon*
While we appreciate all the hard work Taylor put into getting jacked up for the role of Jacob, we do not appreciate this wig.
Thankfully, he lost it for the third and fourth films in the popular franchise.
2. Channing Tatum’s unsettling makeup in *Jupiter Ascending*:
We don’t know where the budget for this movie went, but it clearly wasn’t toward hair and makeup.
These blonde eyebrows, mustache, and goatee look like they were purchased from the dollar store.
3. Chris Hemsworth’s eyebrows in the first *Thor* movie:
The botched bleach job was heavily criticized by fans and even Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige.
He told Uproxx , “The one thing I would definitely do differently if I had to do it over again, is we would not have dyed Chris Hemsworth’s eyebrows blond in the first Thor.”
“Because we were like, Thor is blond! He has to be blond!”
He continued:
“And Hemsworth was great and awesome and pulled it off, but there are a couple of shots I watch and I’m like, oh my God, that poor guy, we made him freaking dye his eyebrows!”
Phew, glad we all agree.
4. Helena Bonham Carter’s wig in *Planet of the Apes*:
Sorry, but with that wig, she looks like the Karen of the Planet of the Apes.
We can see her now: getting mad at another ape for leaving their banana peel on the ground.
And don’t even get us started on that makeup.
Unlike the other characters who were wonderfully done, she doesn’t even look like an ape.
You’re going to feel so sad for her once you learn that she spent hours in the makeup chair.
5. Constance Wu’s bangs in *Hustlers*:
If you were distracted by them during the entire film, you were definitely not alone.
The wig they used for it could have been believable, but the bangs put a stop to that.
6. Guy Pearce’s makeup in *Prometheus*:
So you’re telling us, movie director, that that’s not a white walker from Game of Thrones ? Because from this view, that’s all we see.
Instead, it’s Guy Pearce who is supposed to be an old guy.
7. William Forsythe’s makeup in *Dick Tracy*:
It’s like if Pennywise from It and one of the freak shows from American Horror Story had a baby.
While, yes, they capture William as the triangle-headed Flattop, this could have been done better via CGI.
8. Al Pacino’s makeup in *Dick Tracy*:
You can blame Al Pacino for the nightmares you’ll be having tonight. This Big Boy Caprice look was all his idea!
Those big eyes are the result of him bringing the cartoon world to life. Let’s leave it animated, alright?
9. Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s makeup in *Looper*:
While Looper was a cool movie, there was nothing cool about their attempt at making Gordon-Levitt look like a younger Bruce Willis.
Can the makers go back through time and try this again?
10. The twins’ makeup in *White Chicks*:
It’s a good thing this movie’s a comedy. If not, they would take some serious flack for how bad this makeup is.
They’re supposed to look like white girls, but they don’t even look human. How did no one notice??
11. Winona Ryder’s old lady transformation in *Edward Scissorhands*:
While the makeup department did a great job on Johnny Depp’s makeup, outfits, and hair in the film, they skimped on Ryder.
She looked like a young woman who was very noticeably aged to look like an old woman.
12. Gwyneth Paltrow’s fat suit in *Shallow Hal*
It’s the movie that Gwyneth regrets the most — and for good reason.
A poor attempt at a fat suit may have worked for Monica in Friends , but it does not work for a full-length movie.
13. Jared Leto’s old man transformation in *Mr. Nobody*:
We’ve seen a glimpse of Leto’s future with this old man makeup and it is not bright. Dude needs to hit the gym ~~Botox~~ and eat those greens.
Just like his makeup in The Joker was unforgivable, so was this.
And, speaking of The Joker, that’s another makeup transformation gone horribly wrong.
The Joker’s new look — complete with tattoos, a gold grill, and lots of bling — did not go over well with fans.
Maybe that’s why the movie bombed so badly?
14. Martin Lawrence’s fat suit in *Big Momma’s House*:
Under that fat suit, blonde wig, and makeup was Martin Lawrence.
But of course, you knew that — and so should have everyone else in the film — since the get-up was so horribly done.
15. Ryan Reynolds’ fat suit in *Just Friends*:
We’ve seen Ryan’s future if he were ever to let himself go and we do not like it.
The body of his fat suit was more forgiving since it could be covered up with clothes. His double (triple?) chin though, looks like it was sewn on.
16. Angelina Jolie’s wig in *Salt*:
While we always wanted to see the brunette bombshell go blonde, we never asked for this.
This looks like the kind of cheap wig that you buy from a Halloween store and only wear once.
17. Ice-T’s makeup in *Tank Girl*:
I mean, to be fair, it’s definitely a look that sticks with people forever, that much is for sure.
It is also a little bit frightening, but I assume that’s what they were going for.
18. Jennifer Lawrence’s everything in *X-Men*:
It’s a real tragedy that we had to endure this.
The original Mystique, played by Rebecca Romijn, had the perfect hair and makeup look. Unfortunately, Jennifer Lawrence’s lazy look didn’t sit right with audiences.
19. Emma Stone’s wig in *The Help*:
While it’s not horrible throughout the entire film, every time it is not pulled up in a ponytail, it just looks…awful.
Thankfully, her acting skills are so fantastic that it makes you forget about it!
20. Kate Mara’s wig in *Fantastic Four*:
While her powers, suit, and acting abilities were all incredible, it was the wig that unfortunately didn’t work for us.
You can even see from the gif, the hair just looks so stiff.
21. Leonardo DiCaprio and Armie Hammer’s makeup in *J. Edgar*:
Listen, both of these guys are incredible actors. But this look they have going on is basically a crime.
I don’t know what’s harder to look at, the hairline or the dead look in Hammer’s eyes.
22. Michael J. Fox and Lea Thompson in *Back to the Future Part II*:
The Back to the Future trilogy relied heavily on makeup in aging its young stars. Lea Thompson and Thomas F. Wilson (who played Biff) had the unique distinction of performing as teenagers, forty-somethings, and old timers.
They did okay with Biff. Lorraine and Marty were another story.
23. Bette Midler’s old age makeup in *For the Boys*:
Obviously, we have to consider the fact that this movie was released in 1991 so old age makeup and CGI weren’t perfected.
So, with all that in mind, it’s not too shabby. But still not anything to write home about.
24. Bruce Willis’s hairpiece in *Surrogates*:
I think the thing that put us all off here was knowing Willis is famous for his bald head and then suddenly seeing this hairpiece on him.
It was just…so hard to watch.
25. John Travolta’s entire look in *Battlefield Earth*:
Unfortunately for Travolta, this movie was victim to a ton of bad reviews.
It simply can’t be helped. While they certainly tried their best, nothing could help the movie. That includes hair and makeup.
26. Vin Diesel’s hair piece in *Find Me Guilty*:
A lot like Bruce Willis, Diesel is known for his action-packed films and bald head.
So seeing him with a hairpiece was nothing short of jarring. This is a man who definitely rocks a completely bald head.
27. Robin Williams’ arms in *Popeye*:
To be fair, it definitely could have been worse, considering this was done in 1980. I would even say it’s not the worst on this list!
But those arms… There is just no coming back from that.
