It seems that no matter what time period we find ourselves in, there is sadly no shortage of people out there who take their romantic partners for granted.
And it’s just as frustrating to know that when their spouses have enough and their misdeeds are finally brought to light, they always frame the fallout as their partner’s fault for making them look bad and not a consequence of their actions.

But there are certain circumstances that can make this behavior go from disappointing to a warning sign that something more sinister is afoot. And that’s especially true if the partner sounds like they’re walking on eggshells while griping about this person or are seemingly unaware of how controlling this person’s behavior makes them sound.
And given how one husband reacted to what should have been a minor inconvenience, it was hard for observers not to worry for the woman involved.
Before she even explained what happened, the woman we’re about to hear from tried to assure us that she’s a generous host.
As she stated in a Reddit post , she also said without prompting that her husband works a stressful, demanding job and that she’d never claim to work harder than him even though her job as a stay-at-home mom essentially runs 24/7.
And while this seems like an odd way to explain why she had put off a doctor’s appointment for an eye issue she was worried about, it’ll all make sense soon.
In any case, her eyes were painfully inflamed with some red coloration and she reported having some vision problems recently. Fortunately, she was able to secure a doctor’s appointment on pretty short notice.
But before she could go, her husband told her he wanted to have some friends over for dinner, which meant she would have to host them.
And when she said she had a doctor’s appointment, he told her to reschedule because he thought her eyes looked fine. But when she said it was urgent, he nodded silently.
That may have given her the impression that this was the end of it, but when she set out to go, the husband told her that he emailed the clinic to cancel her appointment.
And when she was able to get it back, he threw a fit, saying that he already invited his friends and that she can’t leave him hanging.
He also refused to drive her to the appointment, so she arranged for her sister to do so while he continued his tantrum.
And when the woman came home, she was greeted by an empty house.
But in her words, “He later calls me still angry saying I failed him and made him look unwelcoming and just an overall bad friend for refusing to host dinner for his friends and forcing him to cancel it.”
When he returned home the next day, he also called her stubborn and manipulative for thwarting his attempts to cancel her appointment out from under her. Since she enjoys hosting, these words made her feel bad and she reached out to Reddit to ask if there was anything to them.
Not only did the overwhelming majority of commenters side with her, but they worried that she was in an unsafe relationship with this man.
As one user put it , “Consider an exit strategy. Eyes are important. Your husband puts his EGO above your HEALTH. That’s not okay. I’m sorry you were treated this way.”
Another agreed and minced words even less, saying , “This is abuse. He is trying to deny you needed medical attention so you can play hostess, and just as bad, he went behind your back to call your doctor to cancel. Run far, far away.”
It’s unclear what happened after that, but it was sadly not lost on these total strangers that they seemed to care more about her well-being and that of her eyes than he does.
