Anna Wintour, the Vogue editor-in-chief who recently stepped down from the role, has finally revealed her thoughts on the beloved movie The Devil Wears Prada.
The movie is thought to be about her
The beloved classic follows the drama of working at a prestigious fashion magazine, and in case you haven’t seen it, Meryl Streep plays the Editor-in-Chief of that magazine.
Steep’s character, Miranda Priestly, is long thought to have been based on the exiting Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour.
Wintour has a reputation of being restrained
Wintour developed an intimidating reputation as she’s known to be notoriously reticent about almost everything. This kind of restraint is portrayed in the movie.
Last year, she attended the West End adaptation of The Devil Wears Prada.
She didn’t really share her thoughts on it
At the time, Wintour kept her own views on the story to herself, telling the BBC that it was ‘for the audience and for the people I work with to decide if there are any similarities between me and Miranda Priestly.”
But now she’s spoken out about it
Wintour has been keeping her thoughts to herself, but in a recent appearance on The Run-Through With Vogue podcast, she shared her feelings about the film.
“Well, I went to the premiere wearing Prada, completely having no idea what the film was going to be about,” she said.
Wintour said the industry was ‘concerned for her’
The Vogue star went on, “And I think that the fashion industry [were] very sweetly concerned for me about the film that it was gonna paint me in some kind of difficult light.”
Although Wintour referred to Streep’s performance as ‘caricature’, she still had some high praise for her and the movie.
She thinks it was an ‘enjoyable’ piece
“But first of all, it was Meryl Streep, which — fantastic,” Wintour said.
“I found it highly enjoyable and very funny. It had a lot of humor to it. It had a lot of wit. It had Meryl Streep [and] Emily Blunt. They were all amazing. In the end, I thought it was a fair shot.”
The host also asked her about an iconic line
David Remnick, the podcast’s host, also asked Wintour about one of the movie’s most notorious lines, ‘By all means, move at a glacial pace. You know it thrills me.’
Her response was, “Nobody at Vogue moves at a glacial pace, least of all my assistants.”
