By and large, vegans tend to be quite appreciative when someone makes an effort to accommodate their restrictions.
Because while the number of places who offer vegan options are increasing all the time, there are still enough people out there who seem to hate them enough that they’ll serve them food with the intention of upsetting them.
So when someone who normally wouldn’t be inclined to do so puts together a vegan meal only for their guest to reject it, you’re likely to see other vegans among the chorus of onlookers calling them out for it.

And that seems especially true in the case of one person who — for whatever reason — seemed hell-bent on making his diet as confusing to others as possible.
Over the weekend, a woman in the U.K. invited her friend and that friend’s boyfriend over for a traditional roast dinner.
As the woman explained in a Reddit post , this normally consists of beef, Yorkshire puddings, vegetables and gravy.
But when she reached out, the boyfriend informed her that he’s vegan and requested that she not mix anything he eats in with meats or other animal products.
In the woman’s words, “I researched the best possible way to make a vegan version that’s still yummy for him. I spent a fortune on the vegan alternatives, didn’t mind as I invited them over and was game for a new cooking challenge.”
But while she was pretty proud of what she had put together, she was disappointed when the boyfriend didn’t even mention the meal as he ate it.
But while she felt he overlooked the work she had put in, she put those feelings aside and offered desserts. These turned out to be crème brûlée for her and her friend and a chocolate pudding-based dish for him.
When she offered coffee, however, the boyfriend requested his with regular milk because he wanted a “treat.”
This puzzled and frustrated her too, but she did as he asked.
But when she returned with the coffee, that was when she experienced the last straw.
That’s because she discovered that he had taken her portion of the crème brûlée and was in the process of eating it by the time she got back.
In her words, “I said, ‘That wasn’t vegan,’ and he went ‘Eh, doesn’t matter.'”
As you might expect, she blew up at him and asked why he insisted on a fully vegan meal if it didn’t actually matter, to which he responded, “Chill, not that big of a deal.”
So now the woman believes he thinks less of her and her friend is in a conflicted position.
Although she would normally be inclined to clear the air for her friend’s sake, she feels the boyfriend should be apologizing to her.
And while that outcome seems unlikely at this time, the Reddit community she reached out to was just as bewildered as she was.
As one user said , “So he is only vegan when it benefits him? And if it doesn’t he will just eat non vegan food? wtf? He made you do all the work for nothing + he stole your desert.”
Another person agreed, saying , “Of course it’s not a big deal to him you did all the work!! You don’t get to pretend you’re vegan just to get everyone to turn make you special food and then just eat the regular food, that’s obnoxious..”
