The highly-anticipated Harry Potter TV series that will hit screens in 2026 sparked new updates as HBO gave input on what to expect when it comes down to casting.
Rumor has it that John Lithgow, the Dexter, Conclave, and Interstellar superstar, was sealing the deal on portraying Professor Albus Dumbledore in the series. HBO is playing with fans’ hearts as they await all the details about the series.

HBO released a statement to Deadline, saying: “We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation. As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize deals.”

For instance, the series was created by Francesca Gardiner and she will be the showrunner. The show is set to run for over a decade.

The director and executive producer of the show will be Mark Mylod. Mylod was also behind the 2022 psychological thriller The Menu, which shows how serious HBO is about perfecting the Harry Potter adaptation.

HBO is approaching the series from a new angle where, unlike the movie, the producers promised that the series would be a “faithful adaptation” of J. K. Rowling’s novels in a 2023 press release.
Will the beloved trio be in the series?
There has been debate about whether Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Tom Felton, and Ralph Fiennes will make an appearance on the show or not.

Radcliffe is more focused on his career in theater now, earning himself a Tony Award for his role in the Stephen Sondheim musical Merrily We Roll Along.

“Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me. I’m looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long form television series,” said the series author in a statement on April 12.
