People with very large platforms have a lot of eyes on them. And with an audience that can number in the millions, social media accounts are under a lot of scrutiny.

Courtney Love was banned from Twitter in 2011 while in the middle of a defamation lawsuit.
She was being sued by fashion designer Dawn Simorangkir, who alleged that Love had gone on a Twitter tirade about her in 2009.

YouTuber PewDiePie was banned from Twitter in 2016 for “jokingly” tweeting that he was going to join ISIS.

Instagram suspended Chelsea Handler for posting a topless photo. She pointed out that the rule was sexist, but Instagram still deleted the post.
Madonna
The puzzling thing about Madonna’s ban is that a reason was never given for why exactly it happened.
It looks like she broke two rules, which involve “mature content” and reposting third-party images. But no one knows which post did it.
Adele
What do you do when you know you have little to no self control on social media?
You ban yourself from using it. That’s exactly what Adele did when she took her own Twitter away from herself.
Alex Jones
Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones lost both his personal account, as well as the account of his site, InfoWars, in a permanent Twitter ban.
He was banned for abusive behavior. Good riddance.
Scout Willis
Never post topless photos on Instagram.
Unless you’re a dude.
Scout Willis posted a photo of a sweatshirt that had two topless women on it, and earned herself a ban from Instagram for her troubles.
Really? Over a sweatshirt?
Clint Eastwood
Clint Eastwood’s Twitter account was over the moon the night that Donald Trump was elected President in 2016.
It was suspended that night, which some thought was censorship. However, it was actually because the account claiming to be Clint Eastwood was not actually Clint Eastwood. Wild.
Azaelia Banks
Twitter suspended Azaelia Banks for cyberbullying in 2016.
And when I say cyberbullying, I mean cyberbullying. She tweeted homophobic and racist slurs at Zayn Malik in a full-blown tirade earlier that year.
Milo Yiannopoulos
Right-wing commenter and Breitbart writer Milo Yiannopoulos was banned from Twitter in 2016 after he asked his army of followers to attack actress Leslie Jones.
Why anyone would want to attack Leslie Jones is beyond me. Have you seen her? She’s an angel.
Anja Rubik
Seriously, the nipples.
Supermodel Anja Rubik was banned from Instagram for posting a screenshot of a website’s front page, in which she was in a sheer top.
Those were enough grounds for Instagram to immediately ban the post.
James Woods
James Woods’ account was temporarily deleted in 2019.
Twitter deleted the account due to a 2018 tweet they found had “the potential to be misleading in a way that could impact an election.”
Woods refused to delete the tweet, so Twitter did it for themselves.
Rihanna
Queen of absolutely everything, Rihanna, was briefly banned by Instagram for posting (gasp!) a photo of her butt.
Not to get too opinionated here, but…what is the big deal about a butt? Have people ever walked on a beach before? Butts galore.
Rose McGowan
The outspoken actress was shockingly suspended from Twitter after calling out Ben Affleck for denying he knew about Harvey Weinstein’s sexually predatory behavior.
Twitter claimed she was suspended because she reportedly tweeted out a private phone number, and reactivated the account.
Donald Trump
The internet lit up with joy the day that it looked like Donald Trump was briefly banned from Twitter.
The ban turned out to be a rogue employee at Twitter who deleted his account.
