It’s been 12 years since HBO’s Girls, but we can’t get over Adam Driver ‘s role as Adam Slacker, which shot him into mainstream media. Everyone rooted for his relationship with Lena Dunham ‘s Hannah Horvath despite its chaotic nature.
You couldn’t deny the chemistry between these stars when they had scenes together, but it’s no surprise that it ended. Outside the film set, there was only a platonic friendship between Driver and Dunham, thus making the intimate scenes awkward for the House of Gucci actor.

Blowing The Casting Team Away With His Audition
Driver is not a conventionally “hot” actor, but if you look at him on screen, you’d forget everything you know about the stereotypical tall, dark, and handsome lead. Dunham and the casting team had the same reaction to watching his audition, and that’s what sold them on choosing Driver as Adam Slacker.
Despite their on-screen chemistry, Driver said shooting the sex scenes was awkward, and he never watched them back. So, he didn’t know what made the final cut.
Hating His Movie Performances
Perhaps the awkwardness came from Driver getting married the second year after the show’s premiere. He dated his wife, Joanne Tucker, for some years before tying the knot, so their relationship was excellent by then.
Filming those scenes would’ve been awkward for someone very committed to his real-life partner, especially since he and Dunham were good friends outside of the series.
Secondly, it’s a Driver thing because he’s continuously said he doesn’t like watching his movies, so he avoids premieres. If he attends one, it’s only for the photo op.
Walking Out On An Interview
Driver’s dislike for watching himself is so strong that he walked out of an interview during his Marriage Story press tour in 2020.
Variety reported that the interviewer, Terry Gross, on Fresh Air with Terry Gross knew about his dislike for watching himself, so they planned to alert him before playing the clip, but it didn’t work out.

Driver and his wife, Tucker, live a quiet life off social media and have a son. The couple shows up at industry parties, especially award shows, with either of them as a nominee. Other than that, they’re almost a figment of imagination for their fans. Notwithstanding, these dedicated supporters created social media accounts on their behalves and updated fellow fans on their sightings.
