Meredith Grey’s story isn’t quite over yet.
Despite already being the longest-running primetime medical drama on television, it was announced on Monday that Grey’s Anatomy was renewed for its 19th season.
While many are thrilled that the iconic Shondaland series will be sticking around for another year, others have taken to Twitter to imply that the show has run its course.
Fans are seemingly divided since it was announced that “Grey’s Anatomy” is far from over.
Recently, ABC revealed that the already longest-running medical drama series on primetime television will see its 19th season.
Interestingly, the star of the show, Meredith Grey herself AKA Ellen Pompeo, has been campaigning for the show to end since season 18.

In a December 2021 interview https://people.com/tv/ellen-pompeo-trying-to-convince-end-greys-anatomy/ with Insider , she revealed that she was trying to convince “everyone” that the show had run its course.
“I’ve been trying to focus on convincing everybody that it should end,” she said.
“I feel like I’m the super naive one who keeps saying, ‘But what’s the story going to be, what story are we going to tell?” she added https://people.com/tv/ellen-pompeo-trying-to-convince-end-greys-anatomy/. “Everyone’s like, ‘Who cares, Ellen? It makes a gazillion dollars.'”
In September, the actress told Entertainment Tonight that she has been “trying to get away for years.”

“It’s not because I haven’t been trying,” she noted of leaving the beloved series behind.
“I have strong relationships at the network [ABC] and they have been very, very good to me, and have incentivized me to stay.”
But plans for a subsequent season pushed on.
The executive producer and showrunner Krista Vernoff told PEOPLE that the upcoming season is going to continue exploring the vast stories of modern medicine through new and old characters.
“‘Grey’s Anatomy’ has a global impact that can’t be overstated,” she said.
“Grey’s touches, and sometimes changes, hearts and minds worldwide through the depth of connection people feel with these characters,” Krista continued.
“I’m excited to work with our extraordinary writers to dream up where we go from here, and I’m always grateful to our partners at Disney and ABC for letting us tell bold stories with real impact.”
Of course, this was great news for many die-hard fans. Others, however, are arguing that the show should doesn’t need another season.
“Y’all have got to let Grey’s Anatomy go,” one person tweeted . “I promise it is time for it to end.”
Another Twitter user shared a promotional photo of Meredith Grey, pointing out that even *she* looks exhausted.
“Even she looks tired. How many seasons is enough?” they wrote.
Ellen Pompeo is in it for the long haul.
Someone else joked that after all these years, Ellen Pompeo should be qualified to practice medicine IRL.
“At this point, she should just receive a medical degree,” they tweeted, while another joked that now they’ll also have to make a 20th season because 19 is an “ugly” number.
“Gotta do season 20 now because 19 is an ugly number and it’s odd, those are the rules!” they wrote .
One fan joked that Ellen Pompeo is probably wondering if what she’s being paid is worth filming another season.
“Asking herself if the money is even worth it at this point lmao,” they tweeted , while someone else jokingly compared her to Rose from Titanic , 84 years later.
Another person pointed out that in the time it has taken to film 19 seasons of “Grey’s Anatomy,” Ellen Pompeo could have literally gone to medical school, graduated, and the show would still be running.
The show has really taken on a life of its own.
“Grey’s Anatomy” has outlived a ton of other shows, but one fan joked that it’s also going to outlive us all.
“We are gonna be dead and gone before this show goes off the air,” they tweeted.
TBH, at this rate, I wouldn’t doubt it.
One person hilariously listed everything they’ve accomplished since “Grey’s Anatomy” first aired in 2005.
“I was in my sophomore year of college when this show started,” they wrote . “I’ve graduated from college, graduated from law school, passed two bar exams, gotten married, had two kids, moved at least 7 times, and bought a house since then.”
“They saw this tweet and kept it going,” one person tweeted, referencing an earlier tweet urging the series to “pull the plug” after season 17.
Someone else called the show “immortal” and compared it to Queen Elizabeth II.
“This show is never gonna end and we’re gonna keep watching whether we like it or not,” one Twitter user chimed in.
“Some guy in my lecture today said he just started watching this for the first time over break. Hope he’s ready to sell his soul,” someone replied .
