Dakota Johnson ‘s major claim to fame was her starring role as Anastasia Steele in the raunchy film adaptation of the Fifty Shades of Grey novel, as well as the rest of the series. It remains the role much of the world remembers her for, and will forever be a landmark in her career.
She opened up recently about the craziness that was happening behind the scenes, surprising fans everywhere.
Dakota Johnson sat down with Vanity Fair recently.

The interview covered quite a lot of ground, but a good chunk of it harkened back to her time staring in the Fifty Shades of Grey film series.
She shared her present-day feelings about the film and just how chaotic the creation of that series was.
She’s not sure she’d do it again.

“If I had known at the time that’s what it was going to be like, I don’t think anyone would’ve done it,” she explained, “It would’ve been like, ‘Oh, this is psychotic.'”
When asked if she regrets it, she said, “No. I don’t think it’s a matter of regret. But no, I don’t regret it.”
She describes how the film changed throughout its creation.

“I signed up to do a very different version of the film we ended up making,” she said.
She explained that part of the issue was the author of the series, E.L. James, having such heavy involvement in filming. “She had a lot of creative control, all day, every day, and she just demanded that certain things happen.”
There were things James wanted that just couldn’t work.

“There were parts of the books that just wouldn’t work in a movie, like the inner monologue, which was at times incredibly cheesy. It wouldn’t work to say out loud. It was always a battle. Always.”
It seemed to be a very chaotic atmosphere.

Johnson described how they’d shoot and reshoot versions of the same scene, how she’d rewrite dialogue with lines from the original script that she much preferred. She was able to save one entire scene from the first script, the one where Anastasia and Christian discuss her contract.
“And it’s the best scene in the whole movie.”
She also addressed the rumors of her and her co-star not getting along.

Jamie Dornan played love interest Christian Gray, and there’s been a long-stanging belief that he and Johnson didn’t get along while filming. Apparently, that wasn’t the case at all.
“There was never a time when we didn’t get along,” Johnson said. “We were doing the weirdest things for years, and we needed to be a team.”
