Ever since she captured the world’s attention with “Bad Guy,” there’s a certain way that we’ve grown used to seeing Billie Eilish.
For years, picturing her would bring to mind a young woman with long black and green hair clad in oversized baggy clothes.
According to USA Today , this fashion choice in particular came as a means to prevent people from body shaming her since they weren’t able to see much of her body shape as a result.
However, with both a new Vogue cover and a look that marks her upcoming album’s shift in direction, Eilish seems ready to embrace a big change.

June’s cover for British Vogue saw Eilish cast smoldering looks at the camera while rocking her new blonde hair.
Throughout the photo spread for the magazine, she also sports a collection of form-fitting corsets in black and earth tones.
As the magazine’s editor-in-chief Edward Enninful said , “Our cover star this month wanted nothing short of a transformation.”
And judging by her Instagram posts in the wake of the photoshoot, Eilish seems very happy with how that tranformation unfolded.
In her words , “I love these pictures and I loved doing this shoot. Do whatever you want whenever you want. [expletive] everything else.”
And as she expands upon in her interview with the magazine, that extends to one’s personal style and even in decisions to seek cosmetic surgery. In her view, whatever you want to make you look like your idea of good should be pursued.
If that philosophy and her new look seem jarring or contradictory to you, Eilish believes that’s likely the result of “weird miscommunications” about her beliefs.
As she said, “Suddenly you’re a hypocrite if you want to show your skin, and you’re easy and you’re a slut and you’re a whore. If I am, then I’m proud.
“Let’s turn it around and be empowered in that. Showing your body and showing your skin – or not – should not take any respect away from you.”
For her, this big stylistic change serves as a means to take power back and “not letting [herself] be owned anymore.”
This has apparently led others to ask Eilish how her younger self would regard this decision, to which she said that it’s neither advisable to model yourself after what your past self would approve of nor what you see as your future self.
Instead, she said, “You should be exactly who you feel like you are and want to be in that moment, otherwise you’re going to go insane.”
