Fans were trying to figure out why Princess Charlotte stuck her tongue out at Duchess Kate and Prince William’s charity sailing race earlier this month, and the answer is adorable.
Princess Charlotte made waves the other day as she was photographed sticking her tongue out to a crowd.
She was attending a sailing event, hosted by her parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton.

And while a lot of people appreciated her silly moment, some fans accused Charlotte of not behaving properly in public because she is “spoiled”.
Although, correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure this is just how four-year-olds act?
This person in particular was unimpressed with Princess Charlotte’s behavior, since they took the liberty of tweeted about it twice.
Once to the media and another directly at the royal family’s Twitter account.
For the most part, however, fans were totally on board with Charlotte’s sass.
She’s a princess. She can do whatever she wants. Who are we to judge?!
Luckily, some fans were sympathetic to the fact that Charlotte is a toddler with a whole world of eyes on her.
We should definitely cut her some slack! She’s just a kid.
Love it or hate it, it was definitely amusing.
Royals or not, it was a classic mother-toddler moment.
So what really happened? Why did Charlotte stick her tongue out.
According to Hello , Charlotte spotted Kate’s dad (her grandfather ) in the crowd and stuck her tongue out at him .
But, of course, fans had no way of knowing that, so they assumed her antics were directed generally at the crowd.
Funny enough, this wasn’t the first time Princess Charlotte made headlines for sticking her tongue out in public.
She’s sorta made a habit of it over the last four years .
In May, 2018, the day of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding, Charlotte was photographed sticking her tongue out of the backseat of the car.
Naturally, back then nobody so much as batted an eye because she was even younger.
Charlotte hasn’t been the only royal to stick her tongue out at people.
Surprise, it actually runs in the family.
When the Duke of Sussex was a boy, he did the exact same thing.
In 1988, when Harry was taken to the hospital to visit his cousin, Princess Beatrice of York, he pulled a Princess Charlotte — sticking his tongue out of the backseat of a car window.
Like I said, this runs in the family.
He did it again while headed to a nativity play with his mom, Princess Diana.
She quickly pulled him away from the car window and sat him on her lap, where he couldn’t stick his tongue out at anybody.
He also did it a third time while Princess Diana was holding him on her hip on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
So there you have it. Charlotte wasn’t mishbehaving, she was simply joking around with her grandfather!
