Chris Rock, 57, has come under fire for comparing getting slapped at the Oscars to the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson.
Chris Rock has definitely had an interesting year. Whether it’s his comedy tour selling out shows or making headlines for being slapped by Will Smith at the Oscars, there’s certainly no shortage of reasons to discuss him. Not all of them are painting Chris in a flattering light, however, after fans took umbrage with a recent comment he made when talking about if he would return to the Oscars stage .
No matter how you felt about the incident, Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars was the biggest story of the night.

If you have somehow forgotten what happened, here’s the rundown: Chris Rock was presenting an award at the ceremony where he referred to Will Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett-Smith as G.I. Jane, referencing her shaved head. Seemingly taking offense at the joke, Will climbed onto the stage and slapped Chris across the face, telling him to “Keep my wife’s name out of your [expletive] mouth.”
At a recent stand-up show in Arizona, Chris discussed the moment.
“He’s bigger than me,” Chris said of Will . “The state of Nevada would not sanction a fight between me and Will Smith.”
Then, however, Chris revealed he had been asked to host the Oscars next year, which he declined. He compared him returning to the Oscars stage as asking Nicole Brown Simpson “to go back to the restaurant,” referencing the murder of the star that began after Nicole left a pair of eyeglasses at an Italian restaurant.
Nicole’s sister Tanya has spoken out against this comment, saying it’s comparing “apples to oranges.”
Tanya told TMZ that “this was a complete misfire on his end,” and she’s not the only one who’s upset by Chris’ comments.
“The more Chris Rock talks, the more you begin to see why Will Smith smacked fire outta him,” tweeted one user .
Many found the joke to be distasteful.
“Chris has gone out of his way to prove over and over why being slapped was warranted,” tweeted one user.
“Chris Rock is now trivializing intimate partner and gender-based violence. He got slapped. She got murdered. There’s no comparison,” added another.
