Even though we love seeing celebs pregnant and growing their families, there’s so much going on in their private lives that we just don’t know about.
These celebrity moms have taken the initiative to speak out about their difficult pregnancies and the complications they endured.
By sharing their experiences, these celebs are helping spread awareness about the health of all expecting moms.
Kim Kardashian
During her two pregnancies, Kim experienced preeclampsia, which causes life-threatening blood pressure complications, and placenta accreta.
Because of those dangerous conditions, she used a surrogate for her third child.
Kate Middleton
With all three of her pregnancies, the Duchess of Cambridge suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum.
This condition causes severe nausea, and Kate had to take a break from her royal duties to recover and rest.
Kelly Clarkson
Kelly Clarkson said that her nausea would last all day while she was pregnant and she had to be hooked up to an IV because she was so dehydrated.
Serena Williams
Serena Williams had previously dealt with blood clots before becoming pregnant with her daughter.
However, that history lead to her developing a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lungs) shortly after giving birth.
Salma Hayek
Salma Hayek developed gestational diabetes during her pregnancy.
Sometimes, pregnant women are unable to keep up and regulate blood sugar as they normally would, which is why they can develop diabetes during their pregnancies.
Tori Spelling
Tori Spelling had placenta previa during her fourth pregnancy and the condition almost killed her. Thankfully, her son was born healthy and she made a full recovery.
Mila Kunis
While she wasn’t diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum, Mila Kunis said her nausea was so bad, she couldn’t even get out of bed. Awww, that doesn’t sound fun at all.
Amy Schumer
Amy is currently pregnant with her first child and has been suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum. The condition, which causes severe nausea, has forced her to cancel shows as she’s been in and out of the hospital.
Amy has taken the whole experience in stride, though.

Jessica Simpson
Jessica Simpson is currently pregnant with her third child and was hospitalized due to a case of bronchitis. Bronchitis isn’t a direct pregnancy complication, but women’s immune systems aren’t as effective when they are pregnant.
Jessica has also experienced severe swelling during this pregnancy, which she hasn’t been afraid to show on her social media.
