Katie Couric Recalls Denzel Washington Interview Which Left Her 'Kind Of Shaken'

If there's one friendship we don't see happening in Hollywood anytime soon, it's the one between Katie Couric and Denzel Washington.

The journalist just shared her feelings on the 2004 interview that left her "shaken."

If you're ever in the mood to feel really, really uncomfortable, just watch awkward interviews.

Thanks to celebrities and the land of Hollywood, the internet is full of them!

For instance, here's Cara Delevingne talking to *CBS Sacramento*.

Since Cara seemed tired and unenthusiastic while promoting her movie, Paper Towns, the interviewers called her out.

"You do seem a bit irritated," said one of the hosts. "Perhaps, it's just us."

"Hey now, too far," Cara could be heard saying.

Fans ended up taking the model's side, as they believed the interviewers were being unprofessional and mean.

Then, there was this interviewer who dared to ask Selena Gomez about Justin Bieber.

When that happened, the singer left the video call SO QUICK.

She wasn't playin'.

And, speaking of shutting down an interviewer, Taylor Swift did so in the most epic way at the Grammys.

While talking to ET, the interviewer said, "You're going to walk home with maybe just a trophy tonight; I think lots of men."

To this, Taylor responded, "I'm not going to walk home with any men tonight ... I'm gonna go home to the cats."

Go, Tay!

Katie Couric, a well-known journalist and former host of the *Today* show has also had her fair share of uncomfortable interviews.

Recently, Couric detailed the one that left her "shaken" while on the Everything Iconic with Danny Pellegrino podcast.

The year was 2004 and she was interviewing Denzel Washington to promote his political film, *The Manchurian Candidate*.

Meryl Streep, who was in the film, was also present.

Things took a turn when she asked him if he agreed with the idea that "Hollywood folks should just stick to acting."

Based on how he responded, Katie believed that Washington "totally misconstrued a question I asked and kind of jumped all over me and it was so uncomfortable."

"I don’t know what Hollywood folks are, first of all. ... Hollywood is a town that has some stars on the sidewalk. I don’t know anybody from there …" Washington said.

"That’s like calling you a ‘type’ of folks. I’m not a Hollywood folk. I don’t know who they are.”

When Couric tried to rephrase her question by saying, "Are you one of those people that," Washington interrupted her.

"Ah, there you go. ‘Am I one of those people?’ Hm, isn’t that interesting?” Washington said.

He continued: “No, don’t stop. I heard what you just said. ‘Am I one of those people?’ No, I’m not.”

When Couric tried to rephrase once again, Washington said, "I’m a human being. My job is acting."

It's been 16 years since that interview, giving Couric plenty of time to reflect.

"I just remember leaving it and thinking, 'God, I must have ... I don't think I said anything wrong, I don't know what happened.'"

"Anyway, he must have been having a really bad day," she said, adding that he later wrote a really big check to her colon cancer organization.

She said that he's "one of my favorite actors," but she was left upset after the interaction.

"I remember walking out and feeling really kind of shaken that he had kind of gone after me in a way that was completely, weirdly uncalled for," she said.

So far, Denzel hasn't released a statement on Couric's comments.

The reaction so far from fans has been mixed, with a lot of people in Denzel's favor.
