10+ Celebs Who Had To Get Crazy Ripped For A Superhero Role

It takes a whole lot to act super. It takes, even more, to look super. And by that, I mean to look so ripped that if you were paper you'd have to be thrown out.

These are the actors who got super ripped for their roles as the comic book characters we love.

1. Hugh Jackman

Fox

For his role as Wolverine, Hugh Jackman had to spend countless hours in the gym and had to adhere to a very strict diet.

All of that for the 15 years he played the character!

And Magneto wasn't the only villain he was fighting...

Fox

Not only was he going up against the very real urge to pig out on Doritos and Mountain Dew for a week, he was also battling skin cancer!

Good for you, Hugh!

2. Chris Pratt

Marvel

We used to know him as the doughy Andy Dwyer from Parks and Recreation.

But, after he got the role in Guardians Of The Galaxy, he shed 60 pounds and hit the weights... and now he's not so doughy anymore!

3. Melissa Benoist

CW

It was all about stamina for Supergirl. She wanted to be able to do incredible feats for a long time.

So, when asked about her workout routine, she answered: core work, plyometrics, pilates, and boxing.

4. Katie Cassidy

Black Canary herself is constantly in the gym. Heck, before she got into the role she even spent time in the gym.

But now that she's a superhero... heck, you can't get her out!

5. Christian Bale

DC

Known for making extreme bodily changes for movies, the Nolan Batman series was no exception.

To put things into perspective, he went from 121 (for his role in The Machinist) pounds to 190 pounds for Bruce Wayne.

6. Kumail Nanjiani

Yeah, remember this little comedian? Now he's shredded, all for his role in The Eternals.

Apparently, he plays Kingo. And now thanks to a personal trainer and a dietician, he can do the role justice!

7. Ben Affleck

DC

When he was tapped to become The Batman, Ben Affleck wasted no time.

He hit the gym, putting on 30 pounds of muscle and shredding his body. He was Bat-ready.

Some of his workouts were even included in 'Batman Vs Superman'...

DC

There was a sequence where Bruce was in the Batcave doing stuff like squats, bench presses, weighted pull-ups, and various CrossFit exercises, which isn't far off as to how Ben Affleck works out in real life.

8. Chris Evans

Marvel

It's not easy being the world's hunkiest super-soldier.

That's why Chris Evans had to go through extensive training in order to be Captain America. He had to gain (and keep on) 30 pounds of muscle!

9. Henry Cavill

Henry Cavill is a fitness freak! For his role as Superman, Zach Snyder sent him to this ultra-intense gym called Gym Jones.

Just in case you were wondering how intense this place was...

Here's an excerpt from their site:

"Gym Jones is not a cozy place. There are no televisions, no machines, no comfortable spot to sit. Effort and pain may not be avoided. Physical and psychological breakdowns occur."

10. Gal Gadot

Wonder Woman herself was in the Israeli army for some time, but now she takes a less dangerous approach to working out.

She was also sent to Gym Jones by Zach Snyder and it paid off!

11. Scarlett Johansson

Marvel

In case you hadn't guessed: it isn't easy to squeeze yourself into that skin-tight catsuit.

And yet, through hard work and perseverance, ScarJo was able to pull it off in four different Avengers movies.
