Amanda Bynes In Crisis: Placed Under Psychiatric Care After Wandering Naked On Streets

Reports from TMZ say that 36-year-old Amanda Bynes was seen moving around the streets of Los Angeles on Sunday stark naked.

The She's The Man actress was seen by an eyewitness to have waved down a passing car, telling the driver she was experiencing a psychotic episode before she called 911 on herself. 

Insider law enforcement sources told TMZ that the 90's star actress was taken down to the nearest police station, where a mental health team accessed her. 

Sources close to the American actress reveal that Bynes is hospitalized and will be placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold — typically lasting up to 72 hours. 

A 5150 psychiatric hold is a legal action that permits a qualified clinician or officer to confine an individual against their will — authorized by the C.A. Welfare and Institutions Code.

Sources close to law enforcement officers revealed that the actress didn't seem hurt during the ordeal — fortunately, because it could have been worse.

Bynes' ordeal of walking down the streets of Los Angeles comes a year after her nine-year conservatorship officially ended since it began in 2013. 

Since her diagnosis of bipolar disorder in 2013, Bynes' mother, Lynn, took the role of her conservator and had been assisting the actress since then.

Before her conservatorship began in 2013, Bynes was involved in several public meltdowns, including two hit-and-runs and a DUI charge in 2012. Then a 2013 incident of throwing a bong out of a window from her 36th-floor apartment in Manhattan.

As part of her many bizarre incidents, Bynes reportedly set her neighbor's driveway on fire, almost resulting in her dog getting burnt. She was involuntarily confined to a Pasadena psychiatric treatment facility. 

Bynes' mental breakdown in the streets of L.A. comes after she pulled the plug on the planned reunion with the All That cast from her 90's show at '90s Con on Saturday. She reportedly cites an "unknown illness" as the cause of her missing out on the reunion.

Two months ago, when People asked Bynes if she would be at the reunion, the What a Girl Wants actress said she was "really excited to reunite" with old cast mates.

Expected at the reunion alongside Bynes were Kenan Thompson, Lori Beth Denberg, Kel Mitchell, and Danny Tamberelli. It would have marked Bynes' first public appearance since the end of her conservatorship in 2022.

Boosting Amanda Bynes into the Hollywood limelight was her time on All That, which ran from 1996 to 2000. The show was created by Brian Robbins and Mike Tollin, featuring 46-year-old Denberg, 44-year-old Mitchell, and 40-year-old Tamberelli. 

By 2019, All That had its revival with Kenan Thompson helming the affairs as executive producer and other cast members returning. Sadly, the show's revival ran its last episode in December 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Probably fueling her mental health challenges, Bynes and her fiancé, Paul Michael, ended their engagement in July 2020. But, the lovebirds reportedly rekindled the flame in August and have lived together since then in Bynes' L.A. home.

An insider close to Ms. Bynes reveals that the pair are simply dating for now, and no engagement news is in sight following the called-off one. The insider also shared, "They are still together as a couple," adding, "They are still in a committed relationship and take their relationship seriously."

After their breakup, Bynes shared a picture of her and Paul holding hands on her Instagram story, and engagement rings seemed to be missing following their split on July 8th.

Since Amanda Bynes stopped her conservatorship in 2022, the actress has reportedly been doing well. Unfortunately, her recent naked walk in L.A. might see a change to that. It remains unclear whether her mom or a legal team will step in.
