Selena Gomez Taking A Social Media Break After Standing Up For Taylor Swift

Selena Gomez, 30, disclosed on TikTok live that she will take a break from social media on Thursday, February 23, 2022, after defending Taylor Swift on the app. A fan account captured it.

“I’m good,” she told her followers. “I'm very happy. I'm so blessed. I have the best friends and fans in the world, and I just couldn't be happier. 

I love who I am; I don’t care. I’m big, I’m not, I don’t care. I love who I am. And yeah, I’m gonna be taking a second from social media ’cause this is a little silly. And I’m 30, I’m too old for this.

“But I love you guys so much!” she continued with a laugh.

And I'll see you guys sooner than later. I’m just gonna take a break from everything.”

Funnily, the Pop Star announcement comes a few hours after unseating Kylie Jenner from her well-coveted position as the most-followed woman on Instagram.

She is now the most followed woman with a jaw-dropping, ready-to-defend 381 million followers.

The announcement was made shortly after Kylie Jenner and Hailey Bieber were blamed for laughing at Gomez’s eyebrow on Instagram.

Kylie dismissed the accusations levied against her, saying “ This is reaching. No shade towards Selena ever, and I didn't see her eyebrow posts! U guys are making something out of nothing. This is silly."

The reason the Lose You to Love Me singer is taking a break is a result of the TikTok drama that commenced on Thursday morning after a video of Hailey Bieber was shown pretending to retch at the mention of Taylor Swift resurfaced.

The video showed a clip from Drop The Mic, Hailey’s, and Method Man's rap battle show.

In the video, Method Man defines a rap battle as having “some of the meanest lyrics about a celebrity since Taylor Swift’s last album." Responding to Method Man, Hailey points the finger at her mouth, pretends to retch, and then shrugs.

Selena Gomez was not having it and came to Taylor Swift’s defense by tooting her horn.

“So sorry, my best friend is and continues to be one of the best in the game," Gomez remarks on the video.

It will interest you to know that Gomez has mentioned the benefits of taking a break from social media apps in the past—Instagram and Twitter.

“Taking a break from social media was the best decision I’ve ever made for my mental health,” she told Instyle in January 2022.

“I created a system where I still don't have my passwords. And the unnecessary hate and comparisons disappeared the moment I put my phone down. I’ll have moments when that weird feeling will return, but now I have a better relationship with myself.”

This is not Selena Gomez's first break from social media. The pop star has been away for over four years and just returned in January.
