Sometimes, we need a break from the noisy world of social media, as attention and toxicity can be a lot to handle. Selena Gomez knows how important this is and took a page from our books. The actress announced she'd be quitting social media for a controversial situation.

The 30-year-old announced she was leaving social media after getting involved an alleged online "eyebrow" drama.
The drama began after the A Year Without Rain singer posted a video revealing she laminated her eyebrows too much. A few hours later, Kylie Jenner put up a picture of herself and Hailey Beiber on FaceTime and focused on their eyebrows, then added a caption, "This was an accident????" over her own eyebrows.
Gomez and Jenner denied their posts had anything to do with each other and called it a "reach" from their fans who interpreted Jenner's act as an attack on Gomez.
However, Gomez's fans still had smoke for Hailey Bieber, as her involvement in the picture doesn't prove her innocence.
Things seemed to be cool between Bieber and Gomez, who posed for pictures last year to calm their fans down and assure them of a cordial relationship between them. But that seems to have served its purpose, and now, a fresh fan war is brewing.
The Rare Beauty founder, however, took to TikTok Live on Thursday to update her fans about her latest decision and added, "I'm gonna be taking a second from social media cause this is a little silly and i'm 30. i'm too old for this."
This decision isn't the first time Gomez had taken a break from using all socials. Earlier this month, she revealed in a Vanity Fair interview that she only has TikTok on her phone and she removed Instagram years ago.
She continued that her assistant posts content on her page.
"...I created a system. Everything I do I send to my assistant who posts them. As far as comments, my team will put together a few things that are encouraging.”
The Disney alum explained in the interview that she didn't enjoy that she began getting the information she didn't want, especially during her break up.
"The world was my high school for the longest time, and I started getting inundated with information that I didn't want. I went through a hard time in a breakup and I didn't want to see any of the [feedback]—not necessarily about the relationship, but the opinions of me versus [someone] else. There'd be thousands of really nice comments, but my mind goes straight to the mean one."
Her decision to retain only TikTok is simple, compared to all other social media apps we have around today, TikTok is much more friendly, and they go easy with the comments.
She decided to delete Instagram on her phone when the panic attacks wouldn't stop due to the terrible comments she was getting from people.
“People can call me ugly or stupid and I’m like, Whatever. But these people get detailed,” she continued. “They write paragraphs that are so specific and mean. I would constantly be crying. I constantly had anxiety…I couldn’t do it anymore. It was a waste of my time.”
The Lose You To Love Me singer also broke the record as Instagram's most followed woman amid all the drama.
Perhaps another reason for the fan war is that the 30-year-old surpassed Kylie Jenner's record by amassing 382 million followers against Jenner's 380 million. But now that she's leaving the app, Jenner may return to the top spot soon.
Her activities on TikTok also got the attention of many when she defended her long-time bestie, Taylor Swift. The old footage showed Hailey sticking out her tongue when Swift's album was mentioned.
"So sorry, my best friend is and continues to be one of the best in the game."
In her documentary, My Mind and Me, Gomez described her fall out with Justin Bieber as the best thing to happen to her.
"I feel like I had to got through the worst possible heartbreak ever... but i just think that needed to happen and ultimately it was the best thing that ever happened to me."
The pair's on-and-off relationship, which went on for about 10 years, finally ended in the spring of 2018.
Bieber's decision to marry Hailey Baldwin just two months after they began dating in June 2018 shocked everyone as Gomez's fans accused them of sneaking behind the actress's back while they were together.
Asides from Bieber, the star has also been linked to Taylor Lautner, Nick Jonas, The Weeknd, Zedd, Charlie Puth, and Orlando Bloom.
While we can't categorically confirm if there's a relationship, she has, however, been spotted with Chainsmokers DJ, Drew Taggart. A source confirmed to US Weekly that they're seeing each other casually and lowly but are having lots of fun together.
