Jerry Seinfeld Told Lisa Kudrow 'You're Welcome' For 'Friends' Success

At a party in the '90s, Lisa Kudrow, known best as Pheobe from Friends, ran into fellow sitcom star Jerry Seinfeld. What happened next was really weird.

He told her 'you're welcome' for the success of her own show, which had soared in popularity that summer, and seemingly took credit for the high ratings, all because his show aired just beforehand.

Lisa Kudrow had a strange interaction with Jerry Seinfeld in the '90s.

In a recent interview with The Daily Beast, Friends actress Lisa Kudrow recounted a bizarre conversation she had with Jerry Seinfeld at a party once, one that sort of rubbed her the wrong way.

He didn't seem interested in even greeting her.

"I remember going to some party and Jerry Seinfeld was there, and I said, ‘Hi,’ and he said, ‘You’re welcome,'" she explained, "I said, ‘Why, thank you … what?'"

He then told her, "You’re on after us in the summer, and you’re welcome."

He was referring to NBCs programming.

Friends used to air after the sitcom Mad About You, but the summer in question, they began airing reruns of Seinfeld before new episodes of Friends.

That was when Friends really got huge and exploded into popularity.

But it wasn't unsuccessful before.

As Kudrow went on to say, "Not to take anything away from the writing on Friends, or the cast, or how good Friends really was, but the first season our ratings were just fine."

It seems a bit strange, and definitely cocky.

Then again, the Friends vs. Seinfeld debate has been longstanding for '90s sitcom fans, with everyone having a different opinion about the matter.

In the end, they're both legendary shows that had their time in the spotlight.
