In the hours following the 2022 Oscars on Sunday night, it seems all anyone can talk about was the slap heard around the world. After Chris Rock made a distasteful joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's hair loss, hubby Will Smith walked on stage and hit Chris during the live telecast.

Now, hours after her husband's statement, Jada is breaking her silence following the controversial event.

On Monday night, Will Smith addressed the situation in an emotional Instagram post.

"Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally," he wrote.

The Academy Award-winning actor went on to apologize directly to Chris.

"I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness."

"I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world," he continued.

"I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us."

The actor and father concluded, "I am a work in progress."

Now, Will's wife Jada is speaking out after the controversial event.

Posting to her own Instagram, Jada's message was short but powerful.

Jada has been open and honest about her struggle with hair loss since 2018.

"A lot of people have been asking why I’ve been wearing turbans. Well, I haven’t talked about it. It’s not easy to talk about, but I am going to talk about it," she explained on Red Table Talk at the time.

"It was terrifying when it first started."

"I was in the shower one day and had just handfuls of hair in my hands and I was just like, 'Oh my god, am I going bald?" she recalled.

"It was one of those times in my life where I was literally shaking in fear."

"That's why I cut my hair, and why I continue to cut it," she explained.

"My hair has been a big part of me,” Jada continued.

"Taking care of my hair has been a beautiful ritual and having the choice to have hair or not. And then one day to be like, 'Oh my god, I might not have that choice anymore.'"

Fans may recall when the actress debuted her shaved head on Instagram last year with her daughter, Willow.

The moment was a big one for Jada, as well as any woman out there who has experienced hair loss.

Despite the ongoing controversy between Will Smith and Chris Rock, it's safe to say viewers were feeling empathy for Jada.

Now, she is letting fans know she is ready for healing and is choosing to move forward.

On Tuesday morning, the 50-year-old shared a quote that read: "This is a season for healing and I'm here for it."

Jada kept the caption blank, seemingly indicating she is not interested in discussing the matter further.

It's clear everyone wants to come out of this situation better and wiser, and I think they're off to a great start!
