Earlier this week it was announced that Alec Baldwin was being sued by the family of the late Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who was killed during a tragic on-set shooting accident last October.

The family officially filed a wrongful-death lawsuit that took the filmmaker’s life four months ago in New Mexico, as reported by Deadline.

On Tuesday night, the Hutchins' family lawyer spoke out on behalf of his grieving clients.

Tragedy struck the "Rust" film set on October 21st, 2021.

Alec, who served as both the produce and star of the film was practicing a stunt on the set when a prop gun he was holding fired.

The shot killed 42-year-old Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza.

According to documents released by the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office at the time, Alec was sitting in a church pew while rehearsing a scene that involved him drawing a revolver and pointing it at the camera.

At the time, Halnya and Joel were viewing the camera angle, as reported by Joel, who was standing behind the 42--year-old at the time of the shot.

On Tuesday, Alec and other members of the "Rust" cast were named in a wrongful death lawsuit by Halnya's family.

“This lawsuit seeks justice for the losses of her survivors and to hold responsible those who caused her tragic death,” the lawsuit stated.

During an emotional statement Tuesday night, Halyna's family's lawyer accused Alec of trying to blame others for the tragic accident.

Back in December, Alec told ABC News that he did not actually pull the trigger of the gun.

"Someone is responsible for what happened, and I can't say who that is, but I know it's not me," he said at the time.

"I mean, honest to God, if I felt that I was responsible, I might have killed myself if I thought I was responsible," he added. "I don't say that lightly."

Halyna's family's attorney Brian Panish spoke on NewsNation's Dan Abrams Live on Tuesday night and said that the actor "caused a death that was reckless and never needed to happen," and that Halyna's loved ones are "looking for answers."

"Alec Baldwin is continuing to do what he's done throughout this — he's blaming others. He's not accepting any responsibility," he continued, as per "People."

"He lays off fault on others when, in fact, but for him shooting the gun, Halyna is still here today. ... Baldwin, again, is in complete denial, accepting no responsibility, and we look forward to letting the folks, the community in Santa Fe County determine his responsibility."

In response to Brian's remarks, Alec's attorney said in a statement that "any claim that Alec was reckless is entirely false."

This story is still developing, and we're hoping for peace and closure for Halyna's husband and son.
