Since we’ve been watching her since Laguana Beach , it’s easy to assume we know everything there is to know about Kristin Cavallari.
But the truth is, she keeps a lot on the DL. For instance, did you know that she had a rough childhood? Or that she’s not the villain she’s been made out to be?
For more, keep reading.
1. She quit her first job to do *Laguna Beach*.
While she may have appeared like a spoiled rich girl on the hit MTV show, she was actually working as a hostess at the time.
“We filmed Thursday to Sunday, which is typically when I would host, so I had to quit my job essentially to do the show—and we got paid. So, yeah, I looked at it as a job,” he told Elle .
2. She dropped out of university because of *Laguna Beach*.

The show sure took a lot out of her.
In an interview with Elle , she said that it was difficult to be recognized all of the time while at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.
She explained that when she introduced herself in a public speaking class, the other girls instantly knew who she was.

“I was like, ‘I just don’t want to be here’ [laughs]. So, I just kind of had an excuse to drop out and blame it on the show, whatever, I could have continued, but…”
3. She’s tried her hand at real acting before.

While it was discovered that The Hills was pretty much fake the entire time, that wasn’t the only acting she’s ever done.
She’s also nabbed guest roles on series, such as Veronica Mars, , CSI: NY , and Adventures in Hollywood .
4. She developed a villain persona as a way to protect herself as a teenager.

If you felt like the star kept her friends and family at arm’s length, it’s because she was.
“I moved around so much when I was younger that I sort of had to have this type of exterior, you know, I was afraid of getting hurt,” she told Elle .
This led to her to become a “tough girl.”

“And I guess that came through, like, moving around, my parents getting a divorce, different step families, and stuff like that. I’d been through a little bit more than most people who are just from Laguna Beach.”
5. She dated Chris Evans.
What a lucky gal!
In 2008, The New York Post reported that Chris and Kristin “definitely hooked up” at the opening of Cabana One at the Mayfair Hotel in Miami. She’s also famously been connected to Brody Jenner and Nick Lachey.
6. She’s not afraid to give her children coal for Christmas.

The reality star has three kids with her ex, Jay Cutler: Camden, 8, Jaxon, 6, and Saylor, 4.
While the reality star gives her kids Christmas presents, what ends up going into their stockings is entirely up to their behavior.
“Growing up, the elves would come every day before Christmas,” she reminisced to *Us Weekly*.

“It’s a good way to keep your kids in line and have them be on their best behavior,” she said.
7. She *really* hated breastfeeding.

The reality star and designer hated it so much that she said that she was a ” was a slave to breastfeeding ” and eventually moved on to goat formula…
She also revealed major TMI during an episode of Very Cavallari .
“I had, like, major clogged ducts,” she shared.
“Jay had to get them out for me. Sucking harder than he’s ever sucked before.”
Um, given this story, we can totally understand why she turned to goat milk instead! Anything but this .
8. She and Jay suffered issues many times throughout their marriage.
The writing was on the wall.
Before she announced her and Jay’s separation this past April, she had described marriage as “hard” back in January while on Diana Madison’s Dream Big podcast.
“It takes an effort from both people. Both people have to really want it,” she said.
9. Her brother suddenly passed away in 2015.

Days after Kristin gave birth to her daughter Saylor, she got the news that her only sibling, Michael Cavallari, had gone missing.
Tragically, his body was found three days later. The autopsy revealed that he had died from hypothermia.
Kristin still struggles to grip her brother’s death to this day.

“He’s not coming back and the shock is finally gone. Today and every single day, Mikey, we miss you,” she wrote on the three-year anniversary of his passing.
Later, it was revealed that Michael struggled with bipolar disorder, which may have contributed to his death.
10. She was actually engaged to Jay twice.
Three months after they first got engaged in April 2011, they split.
“At that moment, something wasn’t right,” Cavallari wrote in her book, Balancing in Heels . “A few things needed to change.”
She continued on, writing that she broke up with him to prove how serious she was.

When they got back together in November 2011, a lot had changed for the better.
Their communication improved and they also saw a relationship therapist.
11. She’s still friends with a lot of her former reality TV co-stars.

“I talk to Audrina [Patridge] and Heidi [Pratt] all the time,” she told People .
“Brody [Jenner], I’ve kept in touch with. Stephen [Colletti], from Laguna Beach, and both [Alex Hooser and Alex Murrel.]”
12. She famously doesn’t believe in vaccinating her kids.

This has been a sensitive subject for the star who has faced a ton of backlash over it.
She tried to defend her stance while on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen .
“There are very scary statistics out there regarding what is in vaccines and what they cause — asthma, allergies, ear infections, all kinds of things.”

At the end of the day, she said that she’s just trying “to make the best decision for my kid.”
