*Warning: spoilers ahead*
In last night’s episode of Yellowstone (November 24), fans were left stunned as another major character met a brutal and unexpected end. Season 5 has already shaken viewers with John Dutton’s shocking death, and now the drama grows even darker. Tensions, betrayal, and revenge collide, leaving the Dutton family’s story more chaotic than ever.
Even in death, John Dutton continues to make his enemies pay
Even though Kevin Costner‘s character, John Dutton, is dead and gone from Yellowstone, nasty things still happen to anyone who dared to cross him. Dutton was the main character in Yellowstone, and his death shocked many fans.
The eleventh episode delivers another shocking murder
In the 11th episode of Yellowstone’s 5th and final season, the story still focuses on John Dutton and his shocking death. The episode then takes a dramatic turn, ending with yet another shocking murder and adding more twists to the Dutton family’s intense saga.
John Dutton’s death was staged as a suicide
The show returned on November 10 and began the second half of Season 5 with a shocking turn — John Dutton was killed off. Costner actually left the series after rumors swirled about some behind-the-scenes conflicts. John was shot by a hitman, who then made it appear as though it was a suicide.
Costner, however, seems unbothered by the dramatic twist in Yellowstone. He recently shared his thoughts on John Dutton’s death on SiriusXM’s The Michael Smerconish Program, saying, “I didn’t see [the episode]. I heard it’s a suicide. That doesn’t make me wanna rush to go see it.”
Kayce uncovers evidence that John was murdered
In this week’s episode, John’s son Kayce pressures the medical examiner to investigate further, and they uncover evidence showing that John had been restrained.
Following this discovery, the police held a press conference and officially announced that the late governor’s death is now being treated as a homicide.
Kayce confronts Jamie in an emotional showdown
Meanwhile, Kayce confronts Jamie about being involved in John’s death. Last week, Beth stormed into Jamie’s office, slapped him, and threatened him. Now, it’s Kayce’s turn.
Jamie tells him, “I had nothing to do with our father’s death. I was as shocked as you were… I love you, even if I hated him, which I never did. I could never do that to you.”
Beth fears the ranch’s collapse is inevitable
Back at the ranch, Beth talks with Thomas Rainwater about its future, which doesn’t look promising. Rainwater admits he probably can’t help save it but says he’s still available if needed.
Beth, clearly disheartened, says, “There is no preserving this place. There is prolonging its collapse,” and adds with a sneer, “One day, there will be a Costco where the barn is.”
Jamie and Sarah’s toxic relationship escalates
Jamie is furious about being recused and blames Sarah for how things have unfolded. Their argument turns physical as they slap each other, marking the second time Jamie has been slapped in this episode.
To calm him down, Sarah reassures him, “The worst you face is accessory after the fact and impeding justice.”
Sarah pays the price for her role in John’s death
After their heated fight, Sarah gets into her car and drives off. Jamie later calls her to make amends, but she pulls over. While parked, another car stops beside her. What looks like an ordinary couple asking for directions takes a sudden turn.
The man pulls out a gun and, executioner-style, shoots Sarah.
Revenge drives the brutal murder of Sarah
It’s still a mystery who ordered the hit on Sarah, but it’s likely someone loyal to John, seeking revenge. Yellowstone might not be Game of Thrones, but the scene had that vibe. It wouldn’t have been shocking if the shooter had said, “John Dutton sends his regards,” right before pulling the trigger.
Jamie is devastated by Sarah’s sudden death
Jamie stays on the call with Sarah during the whole thing and hears the gunshots that killed her. He’s panicking and crying as the episode closes, dialing 911 for help. Yellowstone fans are surely wondering how this dramatic twist will shape the Dutton family’s fate as the series hurtles toward its final episodes.
