So, Drew Binsky — yeah, the guy who’s been to all 197 countries — has had his share of crazy adventures. But there’s one place that stands out, and not in a good way.
He says his trip to N’Djamena, the capital of Chad, was hands down the scariest time he’s ever had while traveling. And this is a guy who’s seen some pretty intense stuff around the world, so that’s saying something.
Drew Binsky is a globetrotter

If you’re looking for a true globetrotter, Drew Binsky’s your guy. He’s been traveling the world for years, and now he’s ticked off every single country. All 197 of them.
His trips are not always glamorous

Sure, Drew’s YouTube channel looks like a non-stop vacation, but it’s not all sunshine and beach drinks. He’s had his fair share of rough moments on the road too.
Not everything goes smoothly on the road

Over the years, Drew has found himself in some pretty wild situations. Like getting stuck in chaos in Guinea’s capital, Conakry, dealing with the world’s narrowest city in China, and, oh yeah — almost getting eaten by cannibals on Papua Island.
N’Djamena scared him more than anything else
But out of all the places he’s been, there’s one that still haunts him. Drew says N’Djamena is the one place that really shook him. It was far more intense than anything else he’s experienced.
He was pretty freaked out in Chad
It was back in 2018 when Drew visited Chad. And to this day, it’s one trip he can’t forget — mostly because it was just that terrifying.
He felt threatened and attacked
Drew didn’t hold back when talking about his time there: “Never in my life have I been more scared, threatened, or attacked (both verbally and physically) than I was in that hot, dusty, and beaten-down, deserted city.”
Things got really out of hand with a police chase
Things went south fast. He explained, “I was involved in a disastrous police chase on a motorbike and was attacked by over a dozen people for trying to take a photo. If it wasn’t for my 6ft 6ins local friend, then I’m not sure I would have made it out of that country alive — no joke!”
Drew got totally lost and his phone didn’t help
Drew said, “We got lost from each other. My phone wasn’t working. And, the motorcycle taxi that I jumped on happened to be a stolen bike, so I was caught in this big police chase. I was cutting through the dirt roads of the city. I got off the bike and there was a huge fight that broke out on the street, and people were grabbing my shirt, like wanting to kill me.”
And it just kept getting crazier
As if it wasn’t already bad enough, Drew hopped on a random minibus to escape the madness, but it led to even more trouble.
He remembered, “Later on, I was taking pictures and I took a picture of a little kid — which normally, I get approval from the parents, but I didn’t see the parents around. Then it turned into a huge problem and another brawl. People were trying to… literally, a guy threatened to take out a knife.”
Drew called it quits early and left Chad

By this point, Drew had had enough. Things were just too much to handle. He even joked about his bad luck, saying, “I walked outside to take a phone call and I stepped in a huge pile of p**p. Like, human p**p — not cow p**p, like human faeces. I actually ended up booking my flight out early, because I had that bad of a time.”
At the end of the day, not every trip is going to be picture-perfect, but it’s these wild stories that make travel unforgettable. Who knows — maybe Drew will give Chad another shot someday!
