A guy on a Royal Caribbean cruise got seriously injured when part of a waterslide broke while he was on it. The slide is on the Icon of the Seas, the biggest cruise ship in the world.
He was between Miami and the cruise line’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay, when it happened on Thursday, August 7. The company has already put out a statement about it.
The accident happened on the slide
The man was on the “Frightening Bolt” slide when a part of it cracked. That left a sharp edge, and he ended up with cuts on his back and legs.
Videos show the moments after
Clips on social media show water pouring out of the crack in the slide. Another video caught the scene right after it happened, with someone yelling “oh my God” in the background.
People nearby could be heard telling others not to go down the slide. Someone even shouted, “Stop the slide!”
Passengers notice the damage from above

In one video, a passenger said the slide was on the 16th floor of the ship. When the camera zoomed in, you could clearly see a big hole in it.
Royal Caribbean shuts it down
“The slide remained closed for the rest of the voyage while engineers assessed the damage,” the company said in a statement. They didn’t say when it might reopen.
They’re looking into whether it was a defect from the factory, a problem during installation, or something else that hit it unexpectedly.
Other attractions stay open but with more checks
“Other pools and water attractions on board remained open, but passengers noted an increase in visible safety checks across the ship in the days following the incident.”
The company speaks out about safety
Meanwhile, in an additional comment to UNILAD, a Royal Caribbean spokesperson added: “The health and safety of our guests, crew, and the communities we visit are our top priority.
“To maintain an environment that supports the highest levels of health and safety onboard our ships, we implement rigorous cleaning procedures, many of which far exceed public health guidelines.”
Medical help was given right away
In an earlier statement, the cruise line confirmed it was a man who got hurt. They said their team “provided medical care” after “acrylic glass broke off a water slide as the guest passed through the slide.”
“The water slide is closed for the remainder of the sailing pending an investigation.”
