Most moms use their pregnancy to get ready for motherhood. That usually involves renovating a nursery, taking a few parenting classes, and reading tons of baby books.
Now imagine finding out you were about to become a mom minutes before it happened. Thirty minutes, to be exact.
That’s exactly what happened to one woman who got the surprise of her life when she went to the hospital with abdominal pain.
Ally Opfer was busy working as a cheerleading coach in the days leading up to December 23, 2016.
On the morning of December 21, Ally had some abdominal pain and thought it was the result of her irregular periods.
As the day wore on, Ally’s pain only got worse, so her mom drove her to the hospital.
Doctors thought the pain might be caused by kidney stones, so they sent Ally for an ultrasound. Instead, they discovered she was pregnant and in active labor.
The news came as a huge shock to Ally who had no idea that she was pregnant.
Ally never had any of the usual pregnancy symptoms and had no bump (this photo was taken a few days before she gave birth). She even took a few pregnancy tests because of her irregular cycle, and they all came back negative.
Ally had an emergency C-section because the baby was breech and her blood pressure was dangerously high.
Thankfully, her son, Oliver, was completely healthy. Both mom and baby made a full recovery in hospital before being sent home.
At the time, Ally was still a college student and had no idea she was about to become a mom.
“I panicked and didn’t know how I’d be able to handle becoming a mom so suddenly. 30 minutes after finding out i was pregnant, I was holding my baby boy. I instantly fell in love and have never looked back,” she said in an Instagram post.
However, Ally and Oliver persevered and got the hang of their new lives.
Ally returned to school to get her education so that she would be able to give her son the best life possible.
Recently, Oliver celebrated his second birthday.
It’s been two whole years since Ally’s life was turned upside-down, but these two are doing great. It’s not easy being a single mom, especially when you had no idea that you were pregnant in the first place, but Ally is committed to being the best mom she can be.
The two even appeared on the “Dr. Oz Show”.
Ally shared her birth story with Dr. Oz and how she had no idea that she was pregnant until she gave birth. She also had the chance to meet some other moms with similar birth stories.
For now, it looks like Ally will continue posting updates about herself and Oliver!
I, for one, am super excited and can’t wait to see what the future holds for these two.
