In recent years, energy drinks have started replacing other everyday drinks like coffee and tea as many people drink them for a source of caffeine and as the name suggests, energy.
But since then, some individuals have testified that energy drinks can be dangerous and may cause health problems, including Meagan Shreve whose husband suffered a cardiac arrest from “drinking too many of them.”
The woman spoke about the incident
In a post on TikTok, Meagan Shreve shared a terrifying story about her husband having to be rushed to the hospital in January after having too many energy drinks.
She advised people to stop drinking them altogether as the stuff wasn’t good for them.
Shreve recalled the night it happened
Her husband Aaron had woken up one night in January “not feeling great.” Because his heart was racing, Meagan thought he was having a panic attack and advised him to “wait it out.”
But Aaron kept feeling worse about his heart and had to get to the hospital.
He kept feeling worse when they arrived
As explained by Meagan, her husband thought he was “going to go down” upon their arrival at the hospital and then “his heart stopped.”
This is obviously a horrific situation to be in. Any chest pain is bad but one that results in such an incident is terrifying.
Doctors had to resuscitate him
Hospital staff began working to save Aaron’s life, performing chest compressions to resuscitate him. Meagan also mentioned that the compressions resulted in broken ribs for the 34-year-old.
The wife described the situation as a very traumatic one, having almost lost a life so unexpectedly.
Cardiologists monitored his case for a few weeks
Following the incident, Aaron had to get his heart monitored for “five to six weeks” so that cardiologists could try and figure out the cause of his cardiac arrest.
His wife claimed that the monitoring came back with “no answers.”
It came down to the energy drinks
Maegan claimed that it “all came down to the fact that they think that he was dehydrated and having too many energy drinks.”
She also explained in her TikTok comments that besides coffee, her husband had been drinking “two to three” energy drinks a day.
Daily caffeine supposedly shouldn’t exceed 400mg
The safe daily amount of caffeine is up to 400mg for adults over 18 years old, according to Bupa UK. That comes out to be about four to five cups of coffee.
Caffeine doesn’t just exist in coffee, though, so energy drinks count in this equation, too.
The wife was worried about Aaron’s consumption
Meagan reiterated her advice against energy drinks as she said there was “essentially nothing wrong” with her husband but that his caffeine consumption seemed to be the culprit.
Some people are more sensitive to caffeine than others, so it should be drunk in moderation.
Maegan advised against energy drinks
The wife strongly advised against energy drinks; they are now a horrifying idea to her after her husband almost lost his life.
She warned her followers, saying, “If you’re somebody who’s downing two, three, four energy drinks a day, I would highly encourage you to stop.”
She advised people to quit
The wife added that even if someone doesn’t want to quit energy drinks, they should think about doing it for their loved ones, “Do it for the people in your life, because this is something that I’ve never been able to get over.”
